This is the black version of Hikvision's 8 MP ColorVu dome. Electronically identical to the white model: a 1/1.8" sensor at 3840 × 2160 behind an F1.0 lens, with Smart Hybrid Light — white light and infrared — so the camera records in full colour at night, in an aluminium alloy housing rated IP67, IK10 and NEMA 4X. Only the finish differs.
Along with its 4 MP sibling, this is one of only two ColorVu models that combines colour night recording with a vandal-rated housing.
This is a camera specified for places where the public can reach it — shop floors, lobbies, school corridors, licensed premises. Those are also places where a white dome on a dark ceiling reads as an imposition, and where architects and shopfitters push back on visible security hardware.
A black dome against a dark soffit or slate ceiling effectively disappears, which is often what gets a scheme approved. The trade-off: where the camera is meant to be seen as a deterrent, white does that better.
At 2.8 mm the DORI figures are detect 89 m, observe 35 m, recognise 17 m, identify 8 m — against 6 m on the 4 MP ColorVu dome. A 4 mm version narrows the view to 93.3° and pushes identification to about 10 m, the furthest in the ColorVu family.
Mind the standoff: minimum focus is 3.3 m, so this is not a camera for mounting directly above a doorway at head height.
Same sensor, same lens, same housing — but minimum illumination is 0.0005 lux against 0.0001 lux, because the sensor area is split across twice as many pixels. So the 4 MP DS-2CD2147G3 performs better in the very darkest conditions; this one is better wherever there is some light and you need detail at distance. Storage also doubles: 16 Mbps against 8 Mbps.
Three modes: infrared (covert, monochrome), white light (full colour, visibly lit, doubles as a deterrent), and Smart Hybrid — infrared until an event is detected, then white light and colour. That third mode is why most people choose ColorVu: discreet by default, colour when it counts.
The supplement light reaches 30 m against an 89 m detection range. Beyond 30 m in genuine darkness you are relying on ambient light.
Only the finish. Sensor, lens, light, analytics and ratings are identical.
The highest impact class in IEC 62262, tested against a 20 joule strike — specify it where the camera is within reach of the public.
No. The 4 MP reaches 0.0001 lux against this camera's 0.0005 lux. Choose 8 MP for reach and detail, 4 MP for the darkest scenes.
Yes — rated 24 VAC/VDC at 1 A.
