This is the black version of Hikvision's 8 MP ColorVu varifocal bullet, and it is the longest-reaching camera in the entire ColorVu range. A 1/1.8" sensor at 3840 × 2160, a motorised 2.8–12 mm lens set remotely from software after mounting, Smart Hybrid Light out to 60 m for full-colour night recording, and an IP67 / IK10 metal housing. Only the finish differs from the white model.

Twenty-two metres to identification

Zoomed wide it detects to 89.2 m and identifies at 8.9 m — comparable with the fixed-lens 8 MP models. Zoomed tele it detects to 220 m and identifies at 22 m.

That is more than double the identification distance of any fixed-lens ColorVu camera, from the same mounting position, adjusted in software rather than by returning to site. For a long driveway, a yard perimeter, a car park or an approach road, this is the ColorVu model that actually reaches.

And unlike most of the varifocals in this catalogue, the illuminator is not the weak link: 60 m of Smart Hybrid Light, where the AcuSense varifocal turrets give 40 m. It still falls short of the 220 m tele detection figure, so genuine long-range work at night needs ambient or added lighting — but it is the best-matched varifocal here.

Why specify black

At 333.8 mm and 1,520 g this is the largest and heaviest camera in the ColorVu range. Against dark brickwork, exposed steelwork or a black fascia the finish makes it recede where a white body this size would dominate an elevation. Where the camera is meant to be seen as a deterrent, white does that job better.

Colour at night — how Hybrid Light works

Three modes: infrared (covert, monochrome), white light (full colour, visibly lit), and Smart Hybrid — infrared until an event is detected, then white light and colour. That third mode is why most people choose ColorVu: discreet by default, colour when it counts.

Two things to check before specifying

• No built-in microphone. It has 1 audio input (line in) and 1 output (line out) on a two-core terminal block, so audio needs an external microphone wiring in. It does carry a proper 1 alarm in / 1 alarm out at 24 VDC/24 VAC, 1 A.
• The aperture is F1.2, not the F1.0 of the fixed-lens ColorVu models — a consequence of the zoom optics. Minimum illumination is still 0.0005 lux.

Frequently asked questions

How far can it identify someone?

Up to about 22 m at the tele end of the zoom, or 8.9 m at the wide end. Both assume adequate light — the supplement light reaches 60 m.

Is the zoom adjusted remotely?

Yes. The lens is motorised, so focal length and focus are set from the web interface or client software — no ladder needed once mounted.

Does it have a microphone?

No — line-in only, for an external microphone.

Is the black version any different to the white one?

Only the finish. Sensor, lens, light, analytics and ratings are identical.
