This is the black version of Hikvision's 4 MP G3 AcuSense deterrence turret. A motorised 2.8–4 mm lens set remotely from software after mounting, 130 dB WDR, arrayed dual microphones, a white strobe and a 105 dB siren, plus full alarm terminals. Only the finish differs from the white model.

The only G3 AcuSense deterrence model with proper alarm terminals

Worth knowing, because it separates this camera from the mini bullets in the same family. The DS-2CD2046G3-IZ2UY/SL has a strobe and speaker but no alarm block at all — it can only deter using its own hardware.

This turret adds 1 alarm in and 1 alarm out rated 24 VDC/24 VAC at 1 A, so it can take a signal from an external detector and switch a real load — a sounder, a strike, a lamp, or a signal into an alarm panel. That turns it from a camera that shouts into a camera that is part of the system.

A black camera with a white strobe

The housing is black so the camera sits quietly against a dark soffit, fascia or steelwork. The strobe is still white light — that is what /SL denotes, and body colour does not change it. A red-and-blue police-style strobe is the /SRB model.

105 dB — quieter than the rest of the deterrence range

Being straight about this: at 105 dB at 10 cm its speaker is at the lower end. The 2046G3 mini bullet manages 110 dB, and the ColorVu bullets reach 120 dB. If the priority is being heard across a yard, one of those is the better choice. This camera's strength is the combination of remote framing, alarm terminals and a compact turret body.

Read the lens range carefully

The zoom is 2.8 to 4 mm — short, not the 2.8–12 mm of the larger varifocals. DORI at 2.8 mm is detect 66.6 m, observe 26.4 m, recognise 13.3 m, identify 6.7 m; at 4 mm, detect 79.2 m, identify 7.9 m. About a metre of extra identification distance across the whole range.

It exists so an installer can fine-tune framing from a laptop rather than returning to site. Specify it for mounting flexibility, not reach.

The power cost of the strobe

It needs 802.3at Class 4, max. 18 W, where the plain DS-2CD2346G3-IZ2UY runs on 802.3af at just 9.5 W — nearly double for the same sensor and lens. Worth checking the port budget before ordering.

Note too that the plain version has a gigabit Ethernet port; this one is 10/100. An unusual step down for the more expensive model, and not something you would guess from the model number.

Frequently asked questions

Is the black version any different to the white one?

Only the housing finish. Sensor, lens, strobe, siren and power draw are identical.

Is the strobe black too?

No — the flashing light is white regardless of body colour. That is what /SL denotes.

Can the alarm output drive a sounder?

Yes — 24 VDC/24 VAC at 1 A. The mini bullet version of this camera has no alarm terminals at all.

Will it run on an 802.3af switch?

No. It needs 802.3at at up to 18 W. The plain IZ2UY version runs on af at 9.5 W.
