This is the most capable camera in the ColorVu range, in black. It combines everything the range does well in a single unit: a 1/1.8" 4K sensor, a motorised 2.8–12 mm lens set remotely from software, Smart Hybrid Light out to 60 m for full-colour night recording, a 120 dB siren with white strobe, two alarm inputs and two outputs, and an IP67 / IK10 metal housing.

Twenty-two metres to identification, with deterrence attached

Zoomed wide it detects to 89.2 m and identifies at 8.9 m. Zoomed tele it detects to 220 m and identifies at 22 m — more than double any fixed-lens ColorVu camera, and adjusted in software rather than by returning to site.

What makes it unusual is that it pairs that reach with active deterrence. The AcuSense strobe models warn people off but record in monochrome after dark. The plain varifocal ColorVu models record in colour but cannot warn anyone. This does both, at the longest range in the range.

The loudest siren, and dual alarm I/O

120 dB at 10 cm — the loudest of anything in this catalogue, above the 110 dB G3 turrets and 105 dB AcuSense models.

2 alarm in, 2 alarm out, each rated 24 VDC/24 VAC at 1 A. Only the DS-2CD2T47G3 and DS-2CD2T87G3 bullets share this. Two outputs drives two devices independently — a sounder and a gate release, or site lighting on one circuit and a panel signal on the other.

Why specify black

At 333.8 mm and 1,555 g this is the largest and heaviest camera in the ColorVu range. Against dark brickwork, exposed steelwork or a black fascia, the finish makes it recede where a white body this size would dominate an elevation.

The strobe is unaffected: the housing is black, the flashing light is still white. That is what /SL denotes. If you need a red-and-blue police-style strobe, that is the /SRB model. Where the camera should be seen as a deterrent at all times, white does that better.

Light that nearly keeps up

60 m of Smart Hybrid Light, where the AcuSense varifocal turrets give 40 m. It still falls short of the 220 m tele detection figure, so genuine long-range night work needs ambient or added lighting — but this is the best-matched varifocal in the catalogue.

Two things to check

• The aperture is F1.2, not the F1.0 of the fixed-lens ColorVu models — the price of zoom optics. Minimum illumination is 0.0005 lux.
• The DC connection is a two-core terminal block, not a barrel jack — worth checking against your usual power leads before install day.
