This is the grey version of Hikvision's 8 MP G2H turret. Electronically it is identical to the white and black models: a 1/1.8" sensor at 3840 × 2160, an F1.0 lens, AcuSense classification, a built-in microphone and 30 m of infrared, drawing only 8 W. Only the finish differs.
AcuSense deep-learning classification separates people and vehicles from foliage, rain, shadows and animals, so line crossing, intrusion, region entrance and region exiting trigger only on real targets. Face capture is supported.
Grey is the finish most people never think to ask for, and it is often the right one. White disappears against render, painted soffits and pale stonework. Black disappears against dark fascias and exposed steel. Grey suits everything in between — galvanised steelwork, concrete, grey uPVC fascia, aluminium cladding, slate-grey composite panels, and the light industrial units and car parks where most of this hardware actually ends up.
On a mixed elevation it is the least conspicuous choice: a white camera on grey cladding reads as an addition, a grey one reads as part of the building. Where the camera is meant to be seen as a deterrent, white remains the better pick.
The specification that stands out has nothing to do with the colour. This camera draws a maximum of 8 W on 802.3af Class 3 — less than the 4 MP DS-2CD2346G2H-IU in the same range, which needs 9 W, and under half what the strobe-and-siren models require on 802.3at.
On a recorder with a fixed total PoE budget shared across every port, that means you can populate the whole machine with 4K rather than mixing resolutions to stay inside the budget.
This SKU is the 2.8 mm version on an M16 mount: horizontal FOV 108.8°, vertical 56.4°, diagonal 134.3°, with depth of field from 3.3 m. Hikvision's published DORI figures are detect 89 m, observe 35 m, recognise 17 m, identify 8 m. A 4 mm version narrows the view to 93.3° and pushes identification to about 10 m.
Note the standoff: at 3.3 m minimum focus this is not a camera for mounting directly above a doorway at head height. And the infrared reaches 30 m against an 89 m detection range, so after dark the illuminator is the limit rather than the optics.
The -IU suffix means a built-in microphone — audio recorded alongside video with no extra hardware. There is no speaker, no strobe, and no alarm or audio terminal block. Ethernet port, microSD slot and reset key are its only physical interfaces.
Only the finish. Sensor, lens, analytics, ratings and power draw are identical.
Yes. Hikvision rate it at 802.3af Class 3, max. 8 W. The deterrence models need 802.3at because of their strobe and speaker, not because of the sensor.
Yes — the -IU has a built-in microphone. Check that recording audio is lawful and signposted for your site before enabling it.
It supports ONVIF Profile S, T and G, so it will record on most ONVIF recorders. AcuSense classification is best supported on Hikvision recorders.
