The RG-CS85-24SFP/8GT8XS-D is a Layer 3 switch that Ruijie position as an aggregation switch for large-sized networks, or a core switch for small and medium-sized networks. It has 24 gigabit SFP ports (eight are RJ45 combo ports), eight 1G/10G SFP+ ports, an expansion slot and two power module slots.

What the RG-CS85-24SFP/8GT8XS-D is for

Ruijie describe the RG-CS85-24SFP/8GT8XS-D as an aggregation switch for large-sized networks, or a core switch for small and medium-sized networks. It is built around SFP rather than copper: 24 x 1G SFP ports, of which ports 1 to 8 are 10/100/1000BASE-T combo ports. Each combo port shares its slot with an RJ45 port, so on those ports you use either the SFP or the RJ45, not both.

Ports 1 to 16 also run at 100 Mbps, while ports 17 to 24 do not. Eight more 1G/10G SFP+ ports, which Ruijie list as its 10GE uplinks, sit alongside them, and the expansion slot takes the CM85-4XS2CQ module with 4 x 1G/10G SFP+ and 2 x 40G/100G QSFP28 ports. Switching capacity is 688 Gbps at 512 Mpps.

As a Layer 3 switch it holds up to 24,000 IPv4 and 14,000 IPv6 unicast routes and 64,000 MAC address entries, and VSU supports up to 4 members. Two power module slots take RG-PA150IB-F modules, with 1+1 redundancy when both are fitted.

What you will need

At least one RG-PA150IB-F power module, because Ruijie's ordering line says to purchase at least one; fit a second for 1+1 redundancy. Apart from the eight combo ports, which can use an RJ45 cable, every port needs an SFP or SFP+ module or cable, so plan the modules you need. A 1G SFP module will not run at 10G in an SFP+ port. Tell us the switches at the other end and we will check the modules.

How many RJ45 ports does the RG-CS85-24SFP/8GT8XS-D have?

Ports 1 to 8 are 10/100/1000BASE-T combo ports, so up to eight ports can be used with RJ45 cable. Each shares its slot with an SFP port, so on each one you use the RJ45 or the SFP, not both. The fixed ports total 32 (24 SFP plus 8 SFP+), not 40.

Do all 24 SFP ports on the RG-CS85-24SFP/8GT8XS-D support 100 Mbps?

No. Ruijie state that ports 1 to 16 support 100 Mbps and ports 17 to 24 do not. All 24 are 1GE SFP ports.

Is a power module included with the RG-CS85-24SFP/8GT8XS-D?

Ruijie's ordering information says to purchase at least one RG-PA150IB-F module, so treat it as a separate item. The switch has two power module slots, and fitting both gives 1+1 redundancy. Ask us to confirm what comes with the switch before you order.

Can the SFP+ ports on the RG-CS85-24SFP/8GT8XS-D run at 10G?

Its eight fixed SFP+ ports are listed as 1GE/10GE, so the module fitted sets the speed. A 1G SFP module will not run at 10G. Tell us the switch model at the other end and we will check the module.

Is there a version of the RG-CS85-24SFP/8GT8XS-D with more RJ45 ports?

Ruijie's RG-CS85 series includes the RG-CS85-24GT8XS-D with 24 RJ45 ports and the RG-CS85-48GT4XS-D with 48 RJ45 ports, both with SFP+ uplinks.
