This is the 4 mm version of Hikvision's 8 MP ColorVu mini bullet: a 1/1.8" sensor at 3840 × 2160 behind an F1.0 lens, with Smart Hybrid Light — white light and infrared — so the camera records in full colour at night rather than switching to monochrome. All in a 530 g housing just 74 mm across.
The specification that stands out is the power draw: maximum 7 W on 802.3af Class 3. That is the lowest of any camera I have listed in this range — lower than the 4 MP ColorVu turret at 11 W, lower than the 8 MP AcuSense turret at 8 W, and a quarter of what the strobe-and-siren models need on 802.3at.
On a recorder with a fixed total PoE budget, sixteen of these draw 112 W. Sixteen deterrence bullets draw 288 W. If you are filling a machine with 4K and the power budget is the constraint, this is the camera that fits.
Same camera, different lens. At 4 mm the field of view is 93.3° horizontal and the DORI figures are detect 109 m, observe 43 m, recognise 21 m, identify 10 m. At 2.8 mm the view widens to 108.8° but the figures fall to 89 m detect and 8 m identify.
Choose 4 mm where the camera looks along a length — a driveway, a service road, a car park aisle — and colour detail at distance matters. Choose 2.8 mm for breadth close in. The 4 mm holds focus from 3.8 m rather than 3.3 m, so give it room.
Smart Hybrid Light gives three modes: infrared (covert, monochrome), white light (full colour, visibly lit, doubles as a deterrent), and Smart Hybrid — infrared until an event is detected, then white light and colour. That third mode is why most people choose ColorVu over a plain IR camera: discreet by default, colour when it counts.
The limit worth stating: the supplement light reaches 40 m against a 109 m detection range at this lens. Beyond 40 m in genuine darkness you are relying on ambient light. The full-size DS-2CD2T87G3 bullet carries a longer reach if the view is long and unlit.
Both use a 1/1.8" sensor and an F1.0 lens. The 8 MP gives considerably more reach — identify at 10 m against 7 m, detect at 109 m against 75 m — but its minimum illumination is 0.0005 lux against 0.0001 lux, because the same sensor area is split across twice as many pixels. So the 4 MP version is the better performer in the very darkest conditions; the 8 MP is the better performer wherever there is some light and you need detail at distance.
Arrayed dual built-in microphones. No speaker, no strobe, and no alarm or audio terminal block — Ethernet, microSD and reset key are the only physical interfaces. For an on-camera siren and strobe, the LI2UY/SL version adds both, at the cost of needing an 802.3at port.
Yes. Hikvision rate it at 802.3af Class 3, max. 7 W — the lowest draw in this range.
Not better, different. It sees further with more detail over a narrower field. The lens is fixed, so decide before ordering.
No. The 4 MP reaches 0.0001 lux against this camera's 0.0005 lux, because the same sensor is split across fewer pixels. Choose 8 MP for reach and detail, 4 MP for the darkest scenes.
No — microphones only. The LI2UY/SL version adds a strobe and audible warning.
