This is the black version of Hikvision's 4 MP G3 AcuSense mini dome. A motorised 2.8–4 mm lens set remotely from software after mounting, 130 dB WDR, arrayed dual microphones and alarm terminals — in the smallest body in the G3 AcuSense range at Ø113.6 mm and 400 g. Only the finish differs from the white model.

The smallest and lowest-draw camera in the block

At 400 g and Ø113.6 mm × 74.6 mm it is markedly smaller than the 550 g turrets and the 1,165 g bullets in the same family, and it draws a maximum of 8 W on standard 802.3af Class 3 — or 6.5 W on 12 VDC.

That matters where the camera has to go somewhere a full turret would look heavy — a retail ceiling, a lobby soffit, a domestic porch — but the installer still wants to frame the shot remotely rather than return with a ladder.

Infrared only — no white light on this model

Worth being clear, because some listings describe this camera as a Smart Hybrid Light model. It is not. The supplement light is infrared only, up to 30 m at 850 nm, so it records in monochrome after dark.

"Smart Supplement Light" on the specification refers to automatic IR intensity control, which prevents nearby objects from blowing out — not to a white-light mode. If you need colour at night, the ColorVu models are the ones to look at.

IK08, not IK10 — and the reason why

It is rated IK08, where the DS-2CD2147G3 and DS-2CD2187G3 ColorVu domes are IK10. The construction explains it: the base is aluminium but the cover is plastic, where the vandal-rated domes use metal throughout.

IK08 is tested against a 5 joule impact; IK10 against 20 joules — four times the energy. For a ceiling in a shop, an office or a lobby, IK08 is normally ample. For somewhere genuinely within reach of the public and likely to be attacked — a custody area, a school corridor, licensed premises — specify an IK10 model instead. It remains IP67 for water and dust either way.

Check the pan range before you site it

Unusually for this catalogue, the pan adjustment is −30° to +30°, not the full 0–360° of the turrets and bullets. Tilt is 0° to 75° and rotate is a full 0° to 360°.

In practice that means the dome must be mounted roughly facing the scene — you cannot mount it in a convenient spot and swing the lens most of the way round afterwards, as you can with a turret. Worth ten seconds of thought at the survey stage.

Read the lens range carefully

The zoom is 2.8 to 4 mm — short, not the 2.8–12 mm of the larger varifocals. DORI at 2.8 mm is detect 66.6 m, observe 26.4 m, recognise 13.3 m, identify 6.7 m; at 4 mm, detect 79.2 m, identify 7.9 m. About a metre of extra identification distance across the whole range.

It exists so an installer can fine-tune framing from a laptop rather than swapping lenses. Specify it for mounting flexibility, not reach.

Why specify black

Against a dark soffit, a black shopfront fascia or a slate ceiling, a black dome effectively disappears where a white one draws the eye. On a camera this small the finish is often what decides whether it reads as part of the ceiling or an addition to it. Where the camera is meant to be seen as a deterrent, white does that better.

Frequently asked questions

Does it record in colour at night?

No. The supplement light is infrared only, so night footage is monochrome. Some listings describe this model as Smart Hybrid Light — that is incorrect.

Is the black version any different to the white one?

Only the finish. Sensor, lens, analytics, ratings and power draw are identical.

Is IK08 good enough?

For a normal retail, office or domestic ceiling, yes. Where the camera is within easy reach and likely to be attacked, specify an IK10 model — the ColorVu domes carry that rating.

Can the alarm output drive a siren?

Not directly — it is rated 12 VDC at 30 mA. Use a relay, or choose the DS-2CD2346G3-IZS2UY/SL turret, which has a 1 A output.
