This is the black version of Hikvision's 4 MP ColorVu varifocal deterrence bullet. A 1/1.8" sensor, a motorised 2.8–12 mm lens set remotely from software, Smart Hybrid Light out to 60 m for full-colour night recording, a 120 dB siren with white strobe, two alarm inputs and two outputs, and an IP67 / IK10 metal housing. Only the finish differs from the white model.

Reach, colour and deterrence in one camera

Zoomed wide it detects to 61.5 m and identifies at 6.2 m. Zoomed tele it detects to 151.7 m and identifies at 15.1 m — roughly double any fixed-lens 4 MP ColorVu, and adjusted in software rather than by returning to site.

Most cameras do one job. The AcuSense strobe models warn people off but record in monochrome after dark. The plain ColorVu models record in colour but cannot warn anyone. This does both, and does it at range.

The widest varifocal view in the range

At the wide end it opens to 114.6° horizontal and 141.3° diagonal — wider than the 8 MP DS-2CD2687G3 at 112.3°, and the widest of any varifocal in this catalogue. If a single camera has to cover a whole forecourt or yard from a tight mounting position, and still zoom in on a gate when needed, this is the one that does both ends.

How it compares with the 8 MP version

The DS-2CD2687G3-LIZS2UY/SL is the same housing, same 60 m light, same 120 dB speaker, same dual alarm I/O. It reaches further — 22 m identification against 15.1 m here — but both share the same 0.0005 lux figure, so there is no low-light penalty in choosing this one. It also halves the stream: 8 Mbps against 16 Mbps, which is real money once you multiply it across a site and a retention period.

So: 8 MP if you need the extra reach, 4 MP if you want the widest view and lower storage at the same night performance.

Why specify black

At 333.8 mm and 1,555 g this is among the largest cameras in the range. Against dark brickwork, exposed steelwork or a black fascia the finish makes it recede where a white body this size would dominate an elevation.

The strobe is unaffected: the housing is black, the flashing light is still white. That is what /SL denotes. If you need a red-and-blue police-style strobe, that is the /SRB model.

The loudest siren, and dual alarm I/O

120 dB at 10 cm — the loudest in this catalogue. And 2 alarm in, 2 alarm out at 24 VDC/24 VAC, 1 A each. Only four cameras here have dual alarm I/O; it lets the camera drive two devices independently, such as a sounder and a gate release.

Two things to check

• The aperture is F1.2, not the F1.0 of the fixed-lens ColorVu models — the price of zoom optics.
• The DC connection is a two-core terminal block, not a barrel jack.

Is it worse in the dark than the 8 MP version?

No — both are 0.0005 lux. The 8 MP reaches further; this one sees wider and uses half the storage.

Is the strobe black too?

No — the flashing light is white regardless of body colour. That is what /SL denotes.

Will it run on an 802.3af switch?

No. It needs 802.3at Class 4 at up to 18 W.
