The Hikvision DS-PDCM15PF-IR is a camera module for the AX PRO range — it adds video verification to a compatible detector, and unlike the indoor PIRCAMs it is IP66 rated.

This is a module, not a detector

It has no PIR of its own. Its only detection method is video verification — it photographs when a host device tells it to, connecting through a 12-bit data interface.

Where it earns its place: outdoors

IP66 and rated −25°C to +60°C, against the indoor PIRCAM's −10°C to +55°C with no ingress rating. That extends video verification to the places it is most useful:

• Yards, compounds and car parks, where an alarm without an image is almost always ignored
• Outbuildings and stores that nobody will attend at 3am on a maybe
• Exposed perimeters where weather would destroy an indoor device

A genuinely wide view

137.2° horizontal by 80.1° vertical from a 2.0mm F2.25 lens — considerably wider than the indoor PIRCAM's 88.4°. Outdoors that matters: a yard or forecourt is a wide scene, and a narrow frame catches the movement but misses the vehicle.

Images are JPEG at up to 640×480, with 3D digital noise reduction to keep night frames usable.

Infrared, not white light

It uses infrared fill to 15 metres with automatic day/night switching, rather than the white light of the indoor PIRCAM. Night images are monochrome — but the camera gives nothing away, which outdoors is usually the right trade. A white light firing in a yard tells an intruder exactly where the device is.

Worth knowing before you order

It will not work on its own. No PIR, no radio of its own — it needs a compatible host detector. Confirm compatibility before ordering.

Night images are monochrome, because it uses infrared rather than white light. For colour images at night indoors, use the PIRCAM.

1200 mA is a substantial draw for a battery device. Check the host's battery specification and expect shorter life than a detector without imaging.

IP66, not IP67 — protected against heavy rain and jets, but not immersion. Do not site it where it may be submerged or where water pools.
