The Hikvision DS-PDPC12PF-EG2-WE(B) is a PIRCAM — a pet-immune motion detector with a camera built in, so every alarm arrives with a photograph of what caused it.

Why a photograph changes everything

An ordinary detector tells you something moved. That is enough to worry you and not enough to act on — which is why most alarm notifications get ignored, and why monitored systems generate expensive false dispatches.

A PIRCAM sends images with the alarm. You can see whether it is an intruder, a curtain, or the cat you thought was out. For a monitored system that is decisive: an ARC operator with a picture can verify an intrusion rather than dispatching on a maybe, and police response in the UK depends on verified alarms.

It photographs in colour, in the dark

The camera has a white light fill to 12 metres and stays in colour rather than switching to monochrome. A colour image of a person at 2am is a different piece of evidence from a grey infrared silhouette — clothing, vehicle colour, and skin tone are all preserved.

Field of view is 88.4° horizontal by 68° vertical, with image sizes of 160×120, 320×240 or 640×480.

Still a proper detector

The camera does not compromise the detection. It carries the same false-alarm engineering as our standard PIR:

Six years on three batteries

Three CR123A cells give up to six years of standby — longer than the standard PIR, despite the camera, because the extra cells more than cover the imaging.

CAM-X radio

It uses CAM-X two-way wireless rather than the Tri-X used by non-camera devices, at 868 MHz with AES-128 — a protocol designed to carry image data. Free-space range is 800 m, shorter than Tri-X's 1.6 km, because images need more bandwidth.

Worth knowing before you order

Panels take a maximum of 48 PIRCAMs, regardless of whether the panel has 64 or 96 zones.

Indoor only, −10°C to +55°C.

Mount between 1.8 m and 2.4 m. Too low and pet immunity suffers; too high and the creep zone opens up — and the camera angle matters as much as the detection pattern, so consider what will be in frame.

Think about privacy. A camera inside a home or workplace carries obligations that a plain detector does not — see our FAQ on CCTV law, and be careful siting one in a bedroom or bathroom.

Radio range is 800 m rather than 1.6 km. On a large site with outbuildings, check signal strength at the intended position — the indicator on the device will tell you before you fix the bracket.

Does it record video?

It captures JPEG images on alarm, up to 640×480, not continuous video. They are sent with the alarm notification.

Will the photos be in colour at night?

Yes — a white light fills to 12 metres and the camera stays in colour rather than switching to monochrome.

Will it ignore my dog?

Up to 30kg, the same as the standard PIR. Set sensitivity to Pet and mount at the correct height.
