This is the 4 mm version of Hikvision's 4 MP ColorVu mini bullet: a 1/1.8" sensor behind an F1.0 lens reaching 0.0001 lux, with Smart Hybrid Light — white light and infrared — so the camera records in full colour at night rather than switching to monochrome. In a 530 g housing just 74 mm across, drawing 6.5 watts.

The most sensitive camera in this catalogue, and the lowest draw

Two specifications worth putting together. Its 0.0001 lux colour sensitivity is the best figure of any camera I have listed here — five times better than the 8 MP ColorVu at 0.0005 lux, and ten times better than the AcuSense models at 0.001 lux. That is a consequence of the same large 1/1.8" sensor being split across fewer pixels.

And it draws a maximum of 6.5 W on 802.3af Class 3 — the lowest of anything in this range, below even the 7 W of its 8 MP sibling. Sixteen of these fill a recorder on 104 W.

So if the priority is a usable colour image in a genuinely dark yard, and the constraint is the recorder's power budget, this specific camera is the answer rather than a higher-resolution one.

4 mm or 2.8 mm — which to order

Same camera, different lens. At 4 mm the field of view is 95.2° horizontal and the DORI figures are detect 75 m, observe 30 m, recognise 15 m, identify 7 m. At 2.8 mm the view widens to 111.1° but the figures fall to 61 m detect and 6 m identify.

Choose 4 mm where the camera looks along a length — a driveway, a side passage, a car park aisle. Choose 2.8 mm for breadth close in. The 4 mm holds focus from 3.1 m rather than 2.5 m.

Colour at night, and the honest limit

Smart Hybrid Light gives three modes: infrared (covert, monochrome), white light (full colour, visibly lit, doubles as a deterrent), and Smart Hybrid — infrared until an event is detected, then white light and colour. That third mode is why most people choose ColorVu: discreet by default, colour when it counts.

The supplement light reaches 40 m against a 75 m detection range at this lens. Beyond that in genuine darkness you rely on ambient light — though with 0.0001 lux sensitivity this camera makes more of whatever ambient light there is than anything else in the range.

Where it sits against the AcuSense mini bullet

Same form factor as the DS-2CD2046G2H-IU, and worth knowing what the difference buys:

• A 1/1.8" sensor rather than 1/3" — much larger, at the same 4 MP resolution
• Ten times the low-light sensitivity, and white light for colour at night
• 130 dB WDR rather than 120, plus EIS image stabilisation

Reach is similar — 75 m detect here against 78 m on the AcuSense at 4 mm. ColorVu buys image quality in poor light, not distance.

What it has, and what it doesn't

Arrayed dual built-in microphones. No speaker, no strobe, and no alarm or audio terminal block. For an on-camera siren and strobe, the LI2UY/SL version adds both — at the cost of needing an 802.3at port and 16 W instead of 6.5 W.

Is this better in the dark than the 8 MP ColorVu?

Yes. It reaches 0.0001 lux against the 8 MP model's 0.0005 lux, because the same sensor is split across fewer pixels. Choose 4 MP for the darkest scenes, 8 MP for reach and detail.

Is the 4 mm better than the 2.8 mm?

Not better, different. It sees further with more detail over a narrower field. The lens is fixed, so decide before ordering.

Does it have a siren?

No — microphones only. The LI2UY/SL version adds a strobe and audible warning, and needs 802.3at power.

Does it really record in colour at night?

Yes, when the white light is active. In infrared mode it records in black and white. Smart Hybrid switches automatically on an event.
