This is the black version of Hikvision's 12 MP G3 turret. Electronically it is identical to the white model: a 1/1.8" sensor at 4608 × 2592, AcuSense classification, arrayed dual microphones and 130 dB WDR, in the same compact all-metal housing as the 4 MP and 8 MP models. Only the finish differs.
AcuSense deep-learning classification separates people and vehicles from foliage, rain, shadows and animals, so line crossing, intrusion, region entrance and region exiting trigger only on real targets. Face capture is supported.
Detail at distance. At 2.8 mm the DORI figures are detect 117 m, observe 46 m, recognise 23 m, identify 11 m — against 89 m and 8 m on the 8 MP G2H turret in the same body. Identification reaches roughly 40% further from the same mounting position, across a slightly narrower 94.2° field.
It also lets you crop into recorded footage and still have something usable, which is the practical reason most people specify 12 MP: one camera covering a forecourt can be digitally zoomed after the fact rather than needing a second camera aimed at the door.
There is also a real storage cost: the bit rate ceiling is 24 Mbps against 16 Mbps on the 8 MP models, so budget around 50% more disk per camera.
Against a dark soffit, a black shopfront fascia, exposed steelwork or a slate ceiling, a black turret effectively disappears where a white one draws the eye. Architects and shopfitters routinely specify it, and on a design-led frontage the finish can decide whether a scheme is approved. Where the camera is meant to be seen as a deterrent, white does that job better.
Despite the resolution it runs on 802.3af Class 3, max. 10.5 W — no need for an 802.3at switch. That keeps it usable on existing infrastructure and on recorders with a tight total PoE budget.
Only the finish. Sensor, lens, analytics, ratings and power draw are identical.
Check before ordering. Many NVRs cap per-channel resolution at 8 MP, and the 24 Mbps stream needs headroom in the recorder's total bandwidth budget.
Not necessarily. Its lens is F1.6 where the G2H models are F1.0. Choose 12 MP for detail and cropping, not for low light.
Yes — arrayed dual microphones. Check that recording audio is lawful and signposted for your site before enabling it.
