This is the black version of Hikvision's 16 MP active-deterrence turret, and the highest-resolution camera in this range. A 1/1.8" sensor at 4608 × 3456, 130 dB WDR, AcuSense classification, arrayed dual microphones, and a white strobe with a 110 dB audible warning. Electronically identical to the white model — only the finish differs.

What 16 MP actually gives you over 12 MP

Height, not reach. Hikvision publish identical DORI figures for the 12 MP and 16 MP models — detect 117 m, observe 46 m, recognise 23 m, identify 11 m at 2.8 mm — because both sensors are 4608 pixels wide.

The difference is aspect ratio. The 12 MP is 4608 × 2592 (16:9); this is 4608 × 3456 (4:3), lifting vertical field of view from 51.1° to 69.9°. Horizontal coverage is the same at about 94°.

So specify 16 MP where the scene is tall: a stairwell, a multi-storey frontage, a forecourt where you want the vehicle and the doorway above it in one frame, or a narrow yard viewed from height. For a conventional wide scene the 12 MP version does the same job for less money and less storage.

Deterrence that carries

The speaker is rated 110 dB at 10 cm, matching the 12 MP model and well above the 105 dB of the 8 MP G2H strobe turrets or the 97 dB of the PTRZ domes. The strobe and audible warning run off the camera's own event rules, so deterrence works on a standalone install with no recorder involved.

It also carries a proper 1 alarm in / 1 alarm out at 24 VDC/24 VAC, 1 A — enough to switch a real load, unlike the 30 mA signalling contacts on the G2H domes.

Three things to check before specifying it

• Frame rate. Full resolution runs at 12.5 fps (50 Hz). For 25 fps you drop to 3840 × 2160.
• Aperture is F1.6, where every G2H model in this catalogue is F1.0. Hikvision still quote 0.0008 lux, but this is not the range's low-light performer.
• Your recorder. 16 MP exceeds the per-channel limit on a great many NVRs, and the 24 Mbps stream needs headroom in the total bandwidth budget. This is the most common reason the camera disappoints in service.

Note the bit rate here is 24 Mbps, higher than the 16 Mbps of the plain 16 MP model without the strobe — worth allowing for when sizing storage.

A black camera with a white strobe

The housing is black so the camera sits discreetly against a dark soffit or fascia. The strobe is still white light — that is what /SL denotes, unaffected by body colour. If you need a red-and-blue police-style strobe, that is the /SRB model. Where the camera is meant to be seen as a deterrent at all times, the white housing does that better.

Frequently asked questions

Does 16 MP see further than 12 MP?

No. Hikvision publish identical DORI figures for both. The extra pixels add vertical field of view, not reach.

How loud is the siren?

Is the strobe black too?

No — the flashing light is white regardless of body colour. That is what /SL denotes.
