This is the black version of Hikvision's adjustable-lens G2H turret. Electronically it is identical to the white model: a motorised 2.8–12 mm varifocal lens set remotely from the browser or client software after mounting, AcuSense classification, and the toughest housing in the G2H turret family. Only the finish differs.

AcuSense deep-learning classification separates people and vehicles from foliage, rain, shadows and animals, so line crossing, intrusion, region entrance and region exiting trigger only on real targets. Face capture is supported.

Why specify black here in particular

This camera is bigger than the fixed-lens turrets in the range — Ø143.5 mm and 1,270 g — so it is more visually present on a wall or soffit. Where the fixed models are discreet by size, this one is not, and the black finish does more work: against dark brickwork, exposed steelwork, a black fascia or a slate soffit it recedes where a white body of this size would dominate.

Where the camera is meant to be seen as a deterrent, white does that better. Black is for coverage without the visual intrusion.

What the zoom buys you

The DORI figures make the case. At the wide end the camera detects to 63.4 m and identifies at 6.3 m. At the tele end it detects to 108.6 m and identifies at 18.1 m — nearly three times the identification distance. One camera covers either a broad forecourt view or an evidential view of a gate at distance, and the choice can be revisited from a laptop rather than a ladder.

The limit is the 40 m infrared. Zoom to tele at night and the optics reach well beyond what the illuminator lights, so long-range identification after dark needs ambient or added lighting.

Built for places where cameras get attacked

Metal base and metal cover, rated IP67, IK10 and NEMA 4X. IK10 is the top impact class in IEC 62262, tested against a 20 joule strike — the rating to specify for ground-floor entrances, custody areas, school corridors, licensed premises and anywhere within reach.

Frequently asked questions

Is the black version any different to the white one?

Only the finish. Sensor, lens, analytics, ratings and power draw are identical.

Is the zoom adjusted remotely or by hand?

Remotely. The lens is motorised, so focal length and focus are set from the web interface or client software.

Does it have a microphone built in?

No. It has a line-in input for an external microphone.

What does IK10 mean in practice?

The highest impact class in IEC 62262, tested against a 20 joule strike — specify it where the camera is within reach of the public.
