Hikvision DS-PDCL12-EG2-WE AX PRO Wireless 360° Ceiling PIR Detector

The Hikvision DS-PDCL12-EG2-WE is the AX PRO ceiling-mounted PIR — a flat disc that looks straight down and covers a full 360° across a 12-metre diameter, with 172 detection zones and no blind spot beneath it.

When the ceiling is the right place

A wall PIR watches a wedge of the room from one corner. That works in most rooms, but not all. In a square open-plan space, a hallway with several doors, a stockroom with racking, or a shop floor with tall displays, a wall detector always has something blocking part of its view.

Mounted on the ceiling, this detector sees down onto everything. Racking, partitions and furniture that would hide an intruder from a wall unit are simply looked over. It is also far harder to approach unseen — the creep zone is directly beneath it, and it is protected.

It is also the discreet option. A white 101 mm disc on a ceiling is close to invisible; a wall PIR in a corner is not.

Coverage that scales with the ceiling

Mounting height is 2.4 m to 4 m. At a domestic 2.4 m ceiling the coverage is tight and dense; at a 4 m commercial ceiling the 12 m diameter opens out to cover a much larger floor area. Either way, 172 zones — three times the count of a wall PIR — give it the resolution to catch movement anywhere in the circle.

The AX PRO false-alarm defences

• White light filter to 6,500 lux — sunlight through a skylight will not trigger it
• Digital temperature compensation — sensitivity holds as the room warms or cools

Tri-X two-way wireless at 868 MHz, AES-128 encryption, frequency hopping, 1.6 km free-space range. The panel confirms every transmission. Enrol by power-up, remote ID or QR code.

Tamper front and rear

Cover and backplate are both monitored. Temperature and signal strength indicators let you confirm a position before you fix it — useful when fixing means a ladder.

Worth knowing before you order

Not pet-immune. A ceiling detector looks straight down, so it cannot distinguish a dog on the floor from a person the way an angled wall PIR can. Where pets have the run of a room, use the DS-PDP15P wall PIR instead.

Where is this better than a wall PIR?

Open-plan spaces, hallways, stockrooms, shop floors with racking or displays, and anywhere a wall detector's view is obstructed. Also anywhere a visible wall unit is unwanted.
