The Hikvision DS-PDD12P-EG2-WE is the dual-technology detector for the AX PRO range — a passive infrared sensor and a 24 GHz microwave sensor in one housing, and both have to agree before it raises an alarm.
A PIR sees heat moving. A microwave sensor sees mass moving. Each has things that fool it: a PIR can react to a fan heater cycling on, sun on a glass roof, or a radiator under a draughty window; a microwave sensor can react to a fluorescent tube or a slow-turning fan. Very few of those fool both at once.
So a dual-tech detector only alarms when the PIR and the microwave trigger together. In practice that means it holds its nerve in the rooms where a plain PIR does not — conservatories, kitchens, warehouses with heaters, anywhere with big temperature swings or moving air.
That is the whole reason to pick this over the standard DS-PDP15P PIR. It costs more and covers a little less distance; what you are paying for is confidence in a difficult room.
Older dual-tech detectors used 10 GHz microwave, which passes straight through plasterboard and can pick up movement in the next room. This one uses 24 GHz, which is largely stopped by walls, so the microwave side sees only the room it is in. Fewer phantom triggers from the corridor.
The P in the model number is the pet-immune variant. 52 detection zones and digital processing distinguish an animal at floor level from a person, and three sensitivity settings — High, Auto and Pet — let you match it to the room.
Three LEDs — green for PIR, red for microwave, blue for alarm — show you exactly which sensor is firing as you walk the room. If the microwave side is catching a fan or a heater, you can see it and adjust, rather than wondering why the system chirped at 3am.
Two CR123A lithium cells give up to five years of standby. The microwave side draws more than a PIR alone, which is why it carries two cells where the DS-PDP15P carries one — but the service interval is the same.
Tri-X two-way wireless at 868 MHz with AES-128 encryption and frequency hopping, free-space range 1.6 km. Two-way means the panel confirms receipt — a one-way detector cannot tell you it failed to report. Enrol by power-up, remote ID or QR code.
Both the cover and the backplate are monitored. There are also environment temperature and signal strength indicators, so you can confirm a position has adequate signal before fixing the bracket.
Indoor only. Rated −10°C to +55°C — not for a porch, an unheated outbuilding or any external position. For outdoors, look at the outdoor detectors in the range.
12 m, not 15 m. The standard PIR reaches 15 m across 90°; this reaches 12 m across 85.9°. In a large open space you may need one more detector than you would with PIRs. The trade is range for reliability.
Mounting height matters. Between 1.8 m and 2.4 m — too low and the pet immunity stops working properly, too high and the creep zone opens up.
It needs an AX PRO panel. This is a Tri-X 868 MHz device for the AX PRO system — not standalone, and not compatible with other manufacturers' panels.
Not included in any kit. The kits ship with standard PIRs. Add this where a particular room needs it.
Any room where a plain PIR keeps false-alarming: conservatories, rooms with fan heaters or air conditioning, glass-roofed spaces, kitchens, workshops. If the standard PIR has been fine, you do not need this.
Up to 30 kg, yes. Set the sensitivity to Pet and mount it between 1.8 and 2.4 metres.
The microwave sensor draws more power than a PIR alone. Two CR123A cells keep the standby life at up to five years, the same as the single-cell PIR.
No — indoor only, −10°C to +55°C.
24 GHz is largely stopped by ordinary walls, which is why it is used rather than the older 10 GHz. It should not detect movement in an adjoining room.
No. It is a Tri-X 868 MHz device for Hikvision AX PRO panels only.
