Hikvision DS-PDPG12P-EG2-WE AX PRO Wireless PIR and Glass Break Detector

The Hikvision DS-PDPG12P-EG2-WE combines a pet-immune PIR and an acoustic glass-break sensor in one AX PRO detector — motion detection to 12 metres and a microphone that listens for breaking glass up to 8 metres away.

Two detectors in one, and why that matters

A PIR only sees an intruder once they are inside and moving. A glass-break sensor hears the window go — before anyone climbs through. Putting both in one housing means a room with a window gets the earlier warning without a second device on the wall, a second battery to change or a second zone on the panel.

For a ground-floor room with a large window, a shop with a glass frontage or a conservatory, that earlier trigger is the difference between a siren going off while the intruder is still outside and one going off after they are in.

The glass-break side

The acoustic sensor covers up to 8 metres and is tuned for float, plate, tempered, wired, laminated and double-glazed glass from 2.4 mm to 6.4 mm thick, in panes from 0.3 × 0.3 m up to 3 × 3 m. Sensitivity is set by distance to the glass — six levels from Level 2 at under 2 m to Level 6 at 7–8 m — so it can be matched to the room rather than left on one setting.

It is certified to EN 50131-2-7-1 for glass-break detection at Security Grade 2, tested by TÜV Rheinland. There is an extra Level 8 for maximum sensitivity, but note that setting falls outside the EN compliance.

The PIR side

12 m range across 85.9° with 52 detection zones, 30 kg pet immunity and three sensitivity settings — Auto, High and Pet. The usual AX PRO false-alarm defences are all present: 6,500 lux white light filter, digital temperature compensation, sealed optics and creep zone protection.

Walk-test each sensor separately

Three LEDs — green for PIR, red for glass-break, blue for alarm — so during commissioning you can see which sensor responded. A clap test shows the microphone is live without setting the whole system off.

Four years on one set of batteries

Two CR123A cells give up to four years of standby. Running a microphone continuously costs a little more than a PIR alone, which is why this is four years rather than the PIR's five — still a long way from an annual battery round.

Radio built for alarms

Tri-X two-way wireless at 868 MHz, AES-128 encryption, frequency hopping, 1.6 km free-space range. The panel confirms every transmission. Enrol by power-up, remote ID or QR code.

Tamper front and rear

Cover and backplate are both monitored. Temperature and signal strength indicators let you confirm a mounting position before fixing.

Worth knowing before you order

Curtains mute it. Heavy curtains or blinds between the detector and the window absorb the sound of breaking glass. If there are curtains, Hikvision's guidance is to mount the detector between the curtain and the glass — on the window's side jamb, for instance — and keep the microphone opening clear of plants, furniture or anything else.

The glass-break sensor has a line-of-hearing. It covers glass within 8 m that the microphone can "see". It will not reliably cover a window around a corner or in the next room.

Indoor only, −10°C to +55°C. Mount between 1.8 m and 2.4 m for the pet immunity to work correctly.

It needs an AX PRO panel. A Tri-X 868 MHz device for the AX PRO system only — not standalone, not compatible with other manufacturers' panels.

Not included in any kit. The kits ship with standard PIRs. Use this in the rooms with the vulnerable glass; the plain DS-PDP15P PIR elsewhere.

Frequently asked questions

Which rooms should get this rather than the ordinary PIR?

Any room where the likely entry point is a window: ground-floor rooms, patio doors, shop frontages, conservatories. Rooms with no external glass do not need it.

Does it work with double glazing?

Yes — double glazing is one of the six listed glass types, along with float, plate, tempered, wired and laminated.

Will curtains stop it working?

They can. Mount it between the curtain and the window, and keep the microphone unobstructed.

Will it ignore my dog?

The PIR side is pet-immune to 30 kg. Set the sensitivity to Pet and mount it at the correct height.

Why is the battery life four years, not five?

The microphone is always listening, which draws slightly more than a PIR alone.

Does it work with other alarm panels?

No. It is a Tri-X 868 MHz device for Hikvision AX PRO panels only.
