Hikvision DS-PDTT15AM-LM-WE AX PRO Wireless Outdoor Triple-Signal Detector

The Hikvision DS-PDTT15AM-LM-WE is the AX PRO outdoor detector — built to raise the alarm while an intruder is still in the garden, the yard or the compound, not after they have reached a door. It uses three sensors, anti-masking and anti-sway analytics to do that without crying wolf every time a cat crosses the lawn or the wind moves a shrub.

Why outdoor detection is hard, and how this solves it

Outside, everything that fools an indoor PIR is amplified: sun on a wall, wind in the trees, foxes, cats, a neighbour's dog, headlights. An ordinary detector on an outside wall is either useless or unbearable.

This unit uses Tri-Signal Logic — an upper PIR, a lower PIR and a 24 GHz microwave. All three have to agree. A cat trips only the lower PIR. A tree moving in the wind trips the microwave but not the heat sensors. A patch of sun warming a fence panel trips one PIR but does not move. A person walking towards the building trips all three. That is why the false-alarm rate is low enough to actually leave it armed.

Pet immunity to 40 kg

Ten kilograms more than the indoor detectors — enough to ignore a large dog. With 92 detection zones and Auto or Low sensitivity.

Anti-sway analytics

Dedicated processing that recognises the back-and-forth signature of swaying foliage and disregards it. Trees and hedges within the field of view stop being a problem rather than something you have to design around.

Anti-masking

If someone sprays, covers or tapes over the lens to blind the detector before a break-in, it reports a mask fault to the panel. The green-plus-orange LED pattern shows a mask condition during testing. An outdoor detector without this can be defeated in daylight by anyone with a can of paint.

Coverage you can shape

15 m range across a 90° view that can be aimed anywhere within 180° — so the detector can face along a fence line or across a drive rather than straight out from the wall. A pattern mask is included to blank out areas you do not want covered: a public footpath, a neighbour's drive, a road.

Built for the weather

IP65 against rain and dust, rated from −25°C to +60°C, with a 10,000 lux white light filter — nearly double the indoor detectors, because outdoor light is harsher.

Five years on batteries

Five CR123A cells give up to five years of standby. Hikvision notes that battery life is significantly reduced in sustained low temperatures, which is honest and worth planning for on an exposed north-facing position.

Walk-test each sensor

Five LED states — green upper PIR, orange lower PIR, red microwave, green+orange mask, blue alarm — so you can see exactly what each sensor is doing as you walk the coverage area.

Radio built for alarms

Tri-X two-way wireless at 868 MHz, AES-128 encryption, frequency hopping, 1.6 km free-space range. The panel confirms every transmission. Enrol by power-up, remote ID or QR code. Front and rear tamper, temperature and signal strength indicators.

Worth knowing before you order

It mounts low — 0.8 m to 1.2 m. That is deliberate and it surprises people used to indoor PIRs at head height. The two PIRs look out in stacked beams; a person crossing at that height breaks both, an animal breaks only the bottom one. Mount it high and the pet immunity stops working.

Use the pattern mask. Anything the detector can see that has regular movement — a road, a footpath, a neighbour's gate — should be masked out at installation. It is quicker than tuning sensitivity afterwards.

Five batteries, not one. Three sensors and a heater-free outdoor housing need the capacity. Budget for CR123A × 5 at replacement time.

Cold shortens battery life. Hikvision's own note. On an exposed position, check it in the app after the first winter rather than assuming five years.

It needs an AX PRO panel. A Tri-X 868 MHz device for the AX PRO system only.

Not included in any kit. The kits are indoor-only. This is the addition that turns an internal alarm into perimeter protection.

Frequently asked questions

Why three sensors?

So that only something with a person's heat signature at two heights and physical mass moving towards the detector raises an alarm. Animals, foliage and sunlight each fail at least one of those tests.

Will it ignore my dog?

Up to 40 kg, provided it is mounted at the correct height of 0.8–1.2 m.

What happens if someone covers the lens?

The anti-masking function reports a mask fault to the panel.

Will trees and hedges set it off?

The anti-sway analytics are designed to ignore swaying foliage. Where a road or path is in view, use the included pattern mask to blank it out.

Can I aim it along a fence?

Yes — the 90° view can be positioned anywhere within a 180° arc.

Does it work with other alarm panels?

No. It is a Tri-X 868 MHz device for Hikvision AX PRO panels only.
