Dahua DH-XVR5216A-X — 16 Channel 1080P Penta-brid CCTV DVR
The Dahua DH-XVR5216A-X is a 16 channel 1080P Penta-brid CCTV DVR, or digital video recorder (Dahua calls this type of recorder an XVR), from Dahua's Lite series. As a CCTV recorder, it auto-detects HDCVI, AHD, TVI and CVBS analogue cameras and also takes IP cameras, so an older analogue system can be upgraded camera by camera. It records H.265+, has two SATA ports and a 1000M network port, and outputs up to 4K (3840 × 2160) on HDMI.

- Built-in Intelligent Video System (IVS) with tripwire and abandoned or missing object detection, plus face detection and Smart Search.
- Smart fan design: the fan turns on or off according to CPU temperature.
- 16 alarm inputs, 3 relay outputs, up to 128 users, ONVIF 16.12.

Common questions
What does Penta-brid mean?
It means the recorder accepts five signal types: HDCVI, AHD, TVI, CVBS and IP. See Dahua Penta-brid recorders explained and Dahua HDCVI cameras explained.
Will it work with my existing analogue cameras?
HDCVI, AHD, TVI and CVBS (PAL/NTSC) cameras are auto-detected on the 16 analogue channels. HDCVI, AHD and TVI cameras are supported up to 5MP.
Can I add IP cameras?
Yes. The IP camera input is 16+8 channels, each up to 6MP.
Is it a 4K DVR?
No. HDMI output goes up to 3840 × 2160 so a 4K monitor works, but the recording resolutions are up to 5M-N at 1~10fps and 4M-N/1080P at 1~15fps.
How much hard drive storage does it take?
It has 2 SATA ports, with up to 10TB capacity. There is no eSATA port.
Does it record audio?
It has 4 audio inputs and 1 audio output (RCA), and audio over coax from compatible cameras. If you record audio, display signage saying so.
Can I view it on my phone?
Dahua lists iPhone, iPad and Android smart phone access.
