The Dahua SD49225I-HC(-S3) is a 2MP 1080p PTZ HDCVI CCTV camera with 25x optical zoom, Starlight low light imaging and infrared night vision up to 100m. Dahua lists it in the Lite Series HDCVI PTZ range, and the datasheet model line reads DH-SD49225I-HC. It is also written SD49225I-HC-S3. Video travels over coaxial cable, and Dahua says an HDCVI system can upgrade a traditional analogue system without replacing existing coaxial cabling.

This pan tilt zoom camera has an IP66 metal housing and an operating range of -40 to 70 degrees C, suiting large yards, car parks and forecourts. Its 4.8mm to 120mm lens gives 25x optical zoom.

A PTZ pans, tilts and zooms under control, so one camera can cover an area that would otherwise need several. It suits large yards, car parks, forecourts and industrial sites where an operator or an automatic tour needs to follow activity rather than watch a fixed frame. Fit fixed cameras alongside it on entrances and gates, so the fixed cameras provide the constant evidence while the PTZ investigates.

Common questions

What does HDCVI mean for this camera?

HDCVI sends high definition video over coaxial cable. Dahua says it takes the simplicity of a traditional analogue system and lets you upgrade it without replacing existing coaxial cabling, with no network to configure. What does Starlight mean here?

Dahua says Starlight technology, together with its image processing and optics, gives this camera very good low light performance. The datasheet minimum illumination is 0.005 lux in colour and 0.0005 lux in black and white, both at F1.6, and 0 lux with the IR on. Our Starlight guide explains the term.

How far does the infrared night vision reach?

The IR distance is up to 100m (328ft) from 6 IR LEDs, with auto or manual IR control.

Is it suitable for outdoor use?

The datasheet gives an IP66 rating, an operating range of -40 to 70 degrees C at less than 90% RH, a metal casing and 6KV lightning protection.

How is it powered? Does it use PoE?

The datasheet gives the power supply as DC 12V/3A, with power consumption of 13W, or 22W with the IR and heater on. It does not list PoE for this model. Dahua lists a DC12V/3A power adapter among its optional accessories.

What PTZ functions does it have?

It has 300 presets, 5 patterns, 8 tours, auto pan and auto scan. Manual speed is 0.1 to 200 degrees/s pan and 0.1 to 120 degrees/s tilt. Control uses RS485 with the DH-SD and Pelco-P/D protocols (auto recognition).
