Hikvision DS-6901UDI(C) — 4K video wall decoder

The entry point into Hikvision's current 4K decoder range. A single HDMI 1.4 output at up to 3840 x 2160 @ 30 Hz, 16 channels of decoding, and a chassis small enough to sit behind the screen it drives — 220 mm wide and powered from an external 12 VDC supply at under 15 W.

Where this one fits

Most decoder specifications start too big. If you are driving one display — a reception monitor, a gatehouse screen, a manager's office — this is the model that does it without a rack, a mains feed, or the eight-output price tag.

The moment you need a second screen, you need the DS-6908UDI(C) instead: this model drives a single wall of scale 1, and that is a hard limit, not a licensing one.

Decoding budget — read this before you order

The headline "16 channels" is the 1080p figure. Real capacity depends on the resolution of the cameras you point at it:

• 1 channel at 32 MP or 24 MP
• 2 channels at 12 MP
• 4 channels at 8 MP
• 5 channels at 6 MP
• 9 channels at 4 MP
• 16 channels at 1080p and below

MJPEG is more expensive again — 4 channels at 1080p. On a modern site of 4 MP AcuSense cameras, nine on screen is the realistic number.

What you'll need with it

• The 12 VDC power adapter — supplied in the box, along with a grounding cable

• HikCentral Professional or the web interface for wall layout and scene configuration

Frequently asked questions

Can it drive two screens?

No — one HDMI output and one BNC, and the BNC is a CVBS duplicate rather than a second wall segment. For multiple screens, step up to the DS-6908UDI(C).

Does it need an NVR?

No. It pulls streams directly from cameras and encoders over the network by URL or RTSP, so it can run alongside a recorder rather than through it.

How many 4 MP cameras can I show at once?

Nine. At 1080p it is sixteen; at 8 MP it drops to four.

Is it rack mountable?

Not as supplied — it is a desktop-size unit at 220 mm wide. The DS-6908UDI(C) is the 1U rack model.
