Hikvision DS-6908UDI(C) — 8-output 4K video wall decoder

The eight-output model in Hikvision's current decoder range, and the one that actually builds a video wall rather than driving a single screen. Eight HDMI 1.4 outputs at up to 3840 x 2160 @ 30 Hz, 128 channels of decoding, and two HDMI inputs with encoding of their own — in a 1U rack chassis drawing under 70 W.

The detail most spec sheets bury

The eight outputs are two banks of four (HDMI 1–4 and 5–8), and each bank shares its decoding capacity. That matters when you plan the wall: the channel budget is allocated across a bank, not per output. Each bank also supports up to 4 channels of smart decoding or encrypted-stream decoding, which is what carries AcuSense alarm events from the cameras through to the wall.

Plan the layout bank by bank and you will not be surprised by capacity halfway through a commissioning visit.

Decoding budget

The 128-channel headline is the 720p figure. By resolution:

• 4 channels at 32 MP or 24 MP
• 8 channels at 12 MP
• 16 channels at 8 MP
• 20 channels at 6 MP
• 32 channels at 4 MP
• 64 channels at 1080p
• 128 channels at 720p and below

MJPEG: 8 channels at 1080p. HIK264: 4 channels at 720p.

What you'll need with it

Frequently asked questions

How many screens will it drive?

Eight, one per HDMI output, at up to 4K each. Wall scale is up to 8.

Can I show a PC or signage feed alongside the cameras?

Yes — two HDMI inputs with onboard encoding bring a local source onto the wall next to the decoded camera streams.

Do all eight outputs get the full 128 channels?

No. Outputs 1–4 and 5–8 form two groups that share decoding capacity, so budget per bank rather than per output.

Does it need fibre?

No — the two gigabit copper ports are enough for most installs. The fibre ports are there for long runs or where the camera network is already fibre-backed.

Is there a smaller version?

Yes — the single-output DS-6901UDI(C) for one screen, at a fraction of the cost and no rack needed.
