The Hikvision DS-PDHT-E-WE is the AX PRO wireless heat detector — for the rooms where a smoke alarm is the wrong tool: kitchens, garages, and anywhere steam, cooking fumes or dust cause constant false alarms.

Why heat instead of smoke

Building regulations and common practice both exclude smoke detectors from kitchens for good reason — toast, steam from a kettle, and normal cooking all produce enough particulate to set one off repeatedly, and a detector that people disable because it keeps false-alarming protects nobody. A heat detector reacts to a genuine rise in temperature instead, which cooking doesn't produce but a real fire does.

It's the same reasoning for a garage: dust, fumes and temperature swings from a car engine make a smoke detector impractical, while a heat detector stays quiet through normal use and reacts if something is actually burning.

Same platform as the smoke detector, different sensor

This shares its electronics, radio, local sounder and dual-battery design with the DS-PDSMK-E-WE smoke detector — only the detection method differs. The sensor itself runs on a sealed, non-replaceable Energizer L91 pair rated for 10 years; a separate replaceable CR123A powers the wireless radio, rated for 5 years.

Loud enough to matter on its own

An 85 dB local sounder at 3 m works even if a phone notification is missed — genuinely audible in the room it protects.

Fitted alongside other AX PRO fire detectors, they sound together — heat detected in the kitchen triggers every linked sounder in the building, not just the one in the kitchen.

Worth knowing before you order

It does not detect smoke. It reacts to heat only. It is the correct choice specifically where a smoke detector would false-alarm — kitchens, garages, boiler rooms, workshops — not a general substitute for smoke detection elsewhere in the building.

Two different battery lifespans, not one. The sensor's cells last the unit's whole 10-year life and are not meant to be opened. The radio's CR123A is the one to replace periodically.

It needs an AX PRO panel. A device for the AX PRO system only — not standalone, not compatible with other manufacturers' panels.

Why not just use a smoke detector everywhere?

Do I need to replace the sensor's battery?
