Texecom Compatible Fobs and Prox Tags

Texecom makes two different kinds of "fob", and they are not interchangeable. The Premier Elite SmartKey (GCC-0001) is a wireless remote keyfob that talks to the system over Ricochet wireless. The Premier Proximity Key Tag (CDB-0001) is a passive tag you present to a keypad or reader with a built-in proximity reader. Which one works for you depends on whether your system has a Ricochet receiver or a prox keypad.

SmartKey or prox tag: which do I need?

Choose the SmartKey to arm and disarm from a distance with a button. Choose prox tags to arm and disarm at the keypad without typing a code.

The Premier Elite SmartKey keyfob (GCC-0001)

The Texecom Premier Elite SmartKey keyfob (GCC-0001) is a wireless keyfob for Premier Elite systems. Texecom lists four functions: remote arm, part arm and disarm; alarm system status display; output control; and a typical 2 to 3 year battery life.

Because it is a Ricochet device, the SmartKey needs a Ricochet receiver on the system. That means one of:

One important exception: Texecom states that the Ricochet Expansion Pack (GEC-0002) is not compatible with SmartKey. If your system uses that pack, a SmartKey will not work with it. Our guide to Texecom Ricochet wireless explains the expanders in more detail.

Premier Proximity Key Tags (CDB-0001)

The Texecom Premier Proximity Key Tag pack of 5 (CDB-0001) is the tag used with Texecom's proximity keypads. Each user presents their tag to the keypad to arm or disarm instead of entering a code. Texecom's KIT-1001 wireless kit, for example, ships with five proximity tags alongside an LCDLP-W prox keypad.

Prox tags only work where there is a prox reader, so check your keypad first.

Which Texecom keypads read prox tags?

Look for "P" (prox) in the keypad name, or an integral proximity reader in the specification. Prox-capable keypads in our range include:

KeypadPanel rangeProx reader
Premier Elite LCDLP (DBD-0168)Premier EliteYes; 32-character large blue LCD, Grade 3
Premier Elite SMK / FMK (e.g. DBD-0171)Premier EliteYes, integral; Grade 3, CPNI accredited
Premier Elite LCDLP-W (GCE-0001)Premier Elite (Ricochet wireless)Yes, integrated
Premier Elite 64-W LIVE panel (GEX-0001)Built into the panelYes, on-board keypad with prox reader
Premier LCDP (DBC-0001)PremierYes (LCDP proximity keypad)

Popular choices are the Premier Elite LCDLP proximity keypad, which Texecom notes is CPNI accredited and uses prox tags for arming and disarming, and the Premier Elite SMK surface mount keypad in Diamond White with an integral proximity reader. For a wire-free keypad, the LCDLP-W wireless keypad also reads tags. The Premier LCDP proximity keypad is listed for Texecom Premier control panels.

Our Premier Elite keypads guide compares every keypad in more detail.

Prox readers away from the keypad

For a reader at a separate door, the Premier Elite iProx and external proximity reader kit (BBC-0001) is a proximity reader kit from the Premier Elite range. Texecom notes it can be used as a single door access controller.

Buying fobs for an existing system

Before ordering, check three things on your system. First, the panel: the SmartKey and prox tags covered here are Premier and Premier Elite accessories, so note the model name on the panel lid or keypad display. Second, the keypad: if its name includes a "P" (LCDP, LCDLP) or its specification mentions an integral proximity reader, it can read CDB-0001 tags. Third, wireless: if the system has a 64-W panel or an 8XP-W or 32XP-W expander, it can accept a SmartKey. Once added, new tags and keyfobs are assigned to users in the panel's programming, so you may need your installer or the engineer code to finish the job.

What about Veritas panels?

The Texecom product data for the Veritas keypads we stock (LED and Excel LCD remote keypads) does not list a proximity reader or SmartKey support. We have not verified fob or tag compatibility for Veritas, so please contact us with your panel model before ordering.

Frequently asked questions

Will a SmartKey work with my Premier Elite 24 or 48?

How many prox tags come in a CDB-0001 pack?

Five.

Can a prox tag arm the alarm from outside?

A prox tag works at a prox reader. To arm from a distance, use the SmartKey keyfob.
