Texecom Smoke, Heat and Carbon Monoxide Detectors Explained

Texecom makes two families of safety detectors that connect to its intruder alarm panels: the wired Exodus range of 4-wire, 12V smoke and heat detectors, and the wireless Ricochet OH-W smoke/heat detector and CO-W carbon monoxide detector. Which you need depends on whether the system is wired or Ricochet wireless, and on the room the detector is going in.

These detectors sit alongside the rest of a Texecom system; our Texecom alarm systems guide explains how the pieces fit together.

Important: the detectors here are designed to report to a Texecom panel. Whether a particular installation meets fire or carbon monoxide requirements for your property depends on the applicable regulations and the system design. Where a product standard is quoted below, it is the standard stated in Texecom's product information; ask a qualified installer if you are unsure what your property needs.

Exodus wired smoke and heat detectors

The Exodus range is for wired systems. Every Exodus model is a 12V 4-wire detector with an alarm relay, and can also be used on conventional fire systems from 10V to 30V. Shared features listed by Texecom are digital drift compensation, a latch input with auto reset and a test button. The four models differ in what they sense, which decides where they can go.

Exodus OH: optical smoke and heat

The Exodus OH combines optical smoke detection with thermal detection and is listed to EN54-7. Texecom states it is not suitable where there is smoke, dust or steam in the air, so it suits areas such as hallways and living spaces rather than kitchens or bathrooms. View the Texecom Exodus OH 4-wire optical and heat detector (AGB-0001).

Exodus RR: rate of rise heat

The Exodus RR responds to a rapid rise in temperature and is listed to EN54-5. Texecom recommends it for areas where the normal temperature is 38°C or below, and not for locations with rapidly changing temperatures. See the Exodus RR rate of rise heat detector (AGB-0002).

Exodus FT64 and FT90: fixed temperature heat

Fixed temperature detectors trigger at a set threshold, which makes them suitable where temperatures change quickly and a rate of rise detector would be unsuitable. Both are listed to EN54-5, and Texecom states neither is intended for slow-burning fires.

Ricochet OH-W wireless smoke detector

The OH-W is the wireless Texecom smoke detector for Ricochet systems. It uses optical and heat detection, was developed as a joint venture with Apollo, and has a built-in 85dB(A) sounder. It signals over Ricochet mesh at 868MHz, and Texecom quotes a 1.5-year battery life. Our listing does not state a product standard for the OH-W, so we do not quote one here. View the Ricochet Premier Elite OH-W wireless smoke/heat detector (GBN-0001).

A Ricochet wireless smoke detector kit (KIT-0080) and a Ricochet wireless safety expansion kit (KIT-0081) are also listed; please check the product pages or ask us for current contents.

Ricochet CO-W carbon monoxide detector

The CO-W is the Texecom carbon monoxide detector. It monitors continuously for CO, reports to the panel over Ricochet mesh and has a built-in 85dB sounder so it can also alert locally. Texecom lists:

  • EN50291-1 Approved
  • EN50131-1 and EN50131-5-3 Grade 2 Class II
  • 10-year sensor life
  • 4-year typical battery life
  • Premier Elite V3.02 or later firmware required

How to choose

  • Wired system, general living areas: Exodus OH.
  • Wired, where smoke, dust or steam would cause problems: a heat detector (RR, FT64 or FT90) chosen by the room's normal temperature.
  • Ricochet wireless system, smoke: OH-W.
  • Carbon monoxide: CO-W, on Premier Elite V3.02 firmware or later.

The wireless models need a Ricochet-capable panel or receiver; Texecom Ricochet wireless explained covers how that works. For panel compatibility, see our Premier Elite control panels comparison.

Frequently asked questions

Can I put an Exodus OH in a kitchen?

Texecom states the Exodus OH is not suitable where there is smoke, dust or steam in the air. A heat detector is usually the alternative for those areas.

Which Texecom detector detects carbon monoxide?

The Ricochet CO-W (GBY-0001) is Texecom's wireless carbon monoxide detector.

Do the wireless detectors sound locally?

Yes. Both the OH-W and CO-W have a built-in 85dB sounder, as stated by Texecom.

Can Exodus detectors be used on a fire panel?

Texecom lists Exodus detectors as 12V 4-wire with an alarm relay, also usable on conventional fire systems from 10V to 30V.
