ER7206 — TP-Link Omada Gigabit Multi-WAN VPN Router
The TP-Link ER7206 is an Omada gigabit multi-WAN VPN router with one gigabit SFP WAN/LAN port, one gigabit WAN port, four gigabit WAN/LAN ports and a USB 3.0 port for 4G LTE dongle backup. TP-Link quote 150,000 concurrent sessions, about 940 Mbps NAT throughput and around 850 Mbps IPsec VPN throughput.
What the ER7206 is for
The ER7206 is a step up from the ER605 for offices with more internet lines or heavier VPN use. Up to four of its ports can run as WAN, including a fibre SFP port, so you can load balance several broadband or leased lines and fail over between them, with a USB 4G dongle as a last resort.
It has no Wi-Fi, so pair it with Omada access points and switches. Adopted into an Omada controller or Omada Cloud, the router, switches and APs are managed from one dashboard, including SD-WAN links between sites.

What you will need
Network cable (or an SFP module for a fibre WAN), your broadband modem or ONT, and a switch for the LAN side. For Wi-Fi add Omada access points; for central management an Omada controller or Omada Cloud.

How many WAN ports does the TP-Link ER7206 have?
One dedicated gigabit WAN port, one gigabit SFP WAN/LAN port and four gigabit WAN/LAN ports, so it can run multiple WAN links with load balancing or failover. A USB 3.0 port takes a 4G LTE dongle for mobile backup.
What VPN throughput does the ER7206 give?
TP-Link quote IPsec throughput of 885.3 Mbps (ESP-SHA1-AES256) and 844.8 Mbps (ESP-SHA256-AES256), L2TP encrypted 686.2 Mbps, WireGuard 341.3 Mbps and SSL VPN 131.6 Mbps.
Is the ER7206 Omada SDN compatible?
Yes. It works standalone through its own web interface, or can be adopted by an Omada software controller, hardware controller (OC200/OC300) or Omada Cloud so it is managed with your Omada switches and access points. SD-WAN works only in controller mode.
ER7206 or ER605: which do I need?
The ER605 has five gigabit RJ45 ports and around 260 Mbps IPsec. The ER7206 adds an SFP WAN port, USB 3.0 and much higher VPN throughput, so it suits busier offices and multi-site VPN.
Can the ER7206 be rack mounted?
Yes. TP-Link list desktop, wall and rack mounting, and a rackmount kit is included in the box.
