The Dahua SD49225T-HN - 2MP 25x Starlight IR PTZ Network Camera is a Dahua Starlight PTZ network camera — pan, tilt and zoom under remote control, with low-light performance built for night use.

Who is it for?

A PTZ covers ground that would otherwise need several fixed cameras. It suits large yards, car parks, forecourts, industrial sites and anywhere someone needs to follow activity as it happens rather than review a fixed frame afterwards. Starlight sensors hold usable colour at very low light levels, so the picture stays informative well after dusk.

Fit fixed cameras alongside it. A PTZ pointed at the far corner records nothing at the gate. The usual approach is fixed cameras covering entrances and boundaries for constant evidence, with the PTZ free to investigate.

Choosing and installing

• Optical zoom is what counts. 25x optical genuinely magnifies the scene; digital zoom simply enlarges pixels. Match the zoom to the distance you actually need — a very long zoom on a small site is wasted.
• Power. PTZs draw more than fixed cameras and often need PoE+ rather than standard PoE, or a dedicated supply. Check the switch or NVR can deliver it.
• Mounting. These are heavy and need a proper bracket — wall, corner, pole or pendant to suit the position. A flimsy mount will let the camera shake at full zoom, which ruins the image.
• Presets and tours. Set preset positions for the spots that matter, so an operator can jump straight to them rather than hunting.

• An NVR that supports PTZ control at this resolution.
• Cat5e or Cat6 cable, and a PoE+ switch or dedicated power supply.
• A surveillance-grade hard drive, fitted and formatted before dispatch.
• Signage. If your cameras capture anything beyond your boundary you are a data controller under UK GDPR and must display a notice.
