The DS-2DE4A225IWG-E is a 2 MP 4-inch IP PTZ speed dome with 25× optical zoom, auto-tracking and IR to 50 m, running over network cable to an NVR on 802.3at PoE.

What sets this one apart is speed: Hikvision quotes a 350°/s preset speed and up to 300°/s manual pan, several times faster than the standard 4-inch domes. That matters when the camera is driven by alarm presets or by an operator who needs it on target immediately. It is rated IP66, takes 2 alarm inputs and 2 outputs, and works from -30 °C to 65 °C.

Frequently asked questions

Why is this dearer than the DS-2DE4225 models?

Speed and alarm handling. A 350°/s preset speed against 80°/s, plus two alarm inputs and two outputs instead of one each. If the camera is going to be driven by alarm presets — a beam trips, the PTZ swings to that preset — the difference is obvious. If it will mostly sit on a tour, the cheaper dome does the same job.

How far does it see at night?

Hikvision quotes IR to 50 m, shorter than the 100 m of the DS-2DE4215IWG1-E. If the area is unlit and large, the longer-IR model is the better buy.

Will standard PoE power it?

No. It needs 802.3at PoE+ (up to 24 W) or a 12 V DC supply. A standard 802.3af switch is the usual reason a PTZ resets when it moves.

Can it follow someone automatically?

Yes. Hikvision lists manual tracking and auto-tracking for this model, so it will lock on to a moving person or vehicle and follow it until it leaves the scene.

Do I still need fixed cameras?

On most sites, yes. A PTZ looks in one direction at a time, so fixed cameras on the entrances give you the constant evidence while the PTZ investigates.
