Texecom Alarm Kits: Wired, Wireless or Hybrid, Which Should You Choose?

The right Texecom alarm kit depends mainly on whether you can run cables. Wireless kits based on the Premier Elite 64-W suit finished homes where cabling is disruptive; wired Premier Elite 24 and 48 kits suit new builds and renovations; and the hybrid kit mixes a wired panel with wireless devices. Self-contained "LIVE" kits put the panel and controls into one wireless unit.

Wired, wireless or hybrid: the short answer

  • Wireless: least disruption to decor, devices communicate over Texecom Ricochet. Best for occupied homes.
  • Wired: devices cabled back to the panel, with no detector batteries to replace. Best where walls are open or cable routes exist.
  • Hybrid: a wired panel that also takes wireless devices, so you can cable where easy and go wireless where not.

Wireless kits: Premier Elite 64-W (KIT-1001, KIT-1002, KIT-1086)

These are the kits to choose for a typical occupied home. Each is built around the Premier Elite 64-W panel with three Capture P15-W wireless detectors and five Premier proximity tags.

More on the detectors in our Texecom Capture detectors guide, and on the sounder in the Odyssey external sounders guide.

Self-contained kits: 64-W LIVE (KIT-1003, KIT-1004)

Self-contained kits use the Premier Elite 64-W LIVE and come with two Premier Elite SmartKey fobs instead of a keypad and prox tags. They are a good fit where users will mainly arm and disarm by fob. Both include three Capture P15-W detectors and a Micro Contact-W.

For extra fobs and tags, see Texecom compatible fobs and prox tags.

Hybrid kit: KIT-1005

The hybrid kit is the most complete starting point for a mixed installation. It pairs the wired Premier Elite 48 panel and Premier LCDP keypad with a Premier Elite 32XP-W wireless expander, so wireless devices can be added alongside wired zones. Texecom lists two Capture Q20-W and two Capture D20-W detectors, two Impaq SC-W shock and contact sensors, and five prox tags. View the KIT-1005 32 zone hybrid wireless kit with Capture.

A separate Premier Elite 48 hybrid panel kit with keypad (KIT-0005) is also listed; its full contents are not given on the listing.

Wired kits: Premier Elite 24 and 48

Wired kits suit new builds, extensions and properties where cable routes are available. The Premier Elite 24 kit with Capture (KIT-1040) pairs the 24 zone panel with Capture detectors; contact us for the full contents. For a larger metal-housed system, there is the Premier Elite 48 metal wired kit (KIT-0008).

To compare the panels themselves, including zone capacity, see Texecom Premier Elite control panels compared.
