TP-LINK - TL-SG1008P - 8-Port Gigabit Desktop Switch with 4-Port PoE+

TL-SG1008P — TP-Link 8-Port Gigabit Desktop Switch with 4-Port PoE+

The TP-Link TL-SG1008P is an unmanaged switch with 8 Gigabit RJ45 ports, 4 of them PoE (64 W budget), in a desktop steel case. It is plug and play, so it works out of the box with no configuration.

What the TL-SG1008P is for

The TL-SG1008P is a PoE switch for powering and connecting IP cameras, Wi-Fi access points and VoIP phones over a single network cable. TP-Link list a PoE budget of 64 W shared across its 4 PoE ports, using 802.3af/at PoE+.

For CCTV, a typical fixed IP camera draws around 7 W or less, so the TL-SG1008P can power roughly 4 cameras at once (check each camera's datasheet; PTZ and heated cameras draw more). TP-Link's Extend Mode allows PoE and data up to 250 m on the supported ports, at reduced speed, for cameras beyond the normal 100 m limit. For larger runs, see our full range of network switches.

What you will need

You need network cable for each device. Total PoE draw of all connected devices must stay within the 64 W budget.

Buying from Zenith Security Co.

We are a supplier, not an installer. We will go through the TL-SG1008P with you before you buy — the port count and speed against your devices and the PoE budget against your cameras or access points — and depending on your requirements and your area we can recommend a qualified trade installer. We have been operating since 2012 and you can visit our trade counter in Wolverhampton.

What is the PoE budget of the TL-SG1008P and how many IP cameras can it power?

TP-Link list a 64 W PoE budget across 4 PoE ports. At around 7 W per typical fixed IP camera that is roughly 4 cameras; higher-draw PTZ or heated cameras reduce that number.

Which PoE standard does the TL-SG1008P support?

The PoE ports are 802.3af/at compliant, so they power standard PoE (15.4 W) and PoE+ (30 W) devices. They will not power 24 V passive PoE devices.

Is the TL-SG1008P managed or unmanaged?

Unmanaged. It is plug and play with no web interface or VLAN settings; its modes are set with front-panel switches.

Does the TL-SG1008P work with TP-Link Omada?

No, it cannot be adopted or managed by an Omada controller, though it will pass Omada traffic like any switch. If you want Omada management, look at the ES205GP easy managed switch.

Does the TL-SG1008P have an SFP port?

No. All 8 ports are RJ45, so there is no fibre uplink.

Can the TL-SG1008P be rack mounted?

No. It is a desktop steel case, not a rack unit.

What is the difference between the TL-SG1008P and the LS108GP?

The TL-SG1008P has 8 Gigabit RJ45 ports, 4 of them PoE (64 W budget). The LS108GP has 8 Gigabit RJ45 ports, 8 of them PoE (62 W budget).
