The Dahua DH-XVR5104HS-X is a 4 channel Penta-brid 1080P CCTV DVR in a Compact 1U case, from Dahua's Lite Series. Penta-brid means one recorder takes HDCVI, AHD, TVI, CVBS and IP camera inputs, so one recorder can take a mix of camera types. It records with H.265+/H.265 dual-stream video compression, takes IP cameras up to 6MP, and adds Smart Search, Intelligent Video System functions and POS ticket overlay and search.

Key features

• H.265+/H.265 dual-stream video compression. Dahua says Smart H.265+ can reduce bit rate and storage requirements by up to 90% compared with H.264, without new cameras.
• HDCVI, AHD, TVI and CVBS signals are detected automatically, with no setting needed, and IP cameras can be added too.
• 4 BNC analogue channels plus IP camera inputs of 4+2 channels, each up to 6MP, with a maximum of 24Mbps incoming bandwidth.
• Long distance transmission: Dahua states the HDCVI system supports up to 800 m for 1080P and 1200 m for 720P over coaxial cable and UTP.
• Intelligent Video System (IVS) with tripwire and abandoned or missing object detection as listed by Dahua, plus face detection and Smart Search for finding motion in a drawn region.
• POS functionality: POS ticket information overlay and search, which Dahua lists for retail use.
• Smart fan design: the fan turns on or off with CPU temperature to reduce noise.
• 1 HDMI and 1 VGA output, up to 1920 × 1080.

What does Penta-brid mean?

Penta-brid is Dahua's name for a recorder that accepts HDCVI, AHD, TVI, CVBS and IP camera inputs. Read our guide to Dahua Penta-brid recorders for more.

What resolution does it record?

Dahua lists recording resolutions of 5M-N, 4M-N, 1080P, 1080N, 720P, 960H, D1 and CIF. The main stream is 5M-N at 1~10fps on the 1st channel and 4M-N or 1080P at 1~15fps on the other channels. The HDMI and VGA outputs go up to 1920 × 1080, and Dahua lists no 4K output for this model.

Can I use the analogue cameras I already have?

Dahua lists HDCVI, AHD, TVI and CVBS (PAL/NTSC) inputs and says the recorder recognises the signal automatically. See our HDCVI guide for how HDCVI works.

How many IP cameras can it take?

Dahua lists IP camera input of 4+2 channels, each up to 6MP, with a maximum of 6 IP channels and 24Mbps incoming bandwidth.

How much storage can it hold?

It has 1 SATA port that takes a hard drive up to 10TB. Backup is to a USB device or over the network. The drive is not part of the recorder, so choose one in the options above or buy the recorder on its own.

Does it support POS overlay?

Yes. Dahua lists POS functionality, with POS ticket information overlay and search, for retail use.

Can I watch it on a phone?

Dahua lists iPhone, iPad and Android support and P2P in its network functions.
