Dahua DH-XVR5108HS-X — 8 Channel CCTV DVR
The Dahua DH-XVR5108HS-X is an 8 channel hybrid CCTV DVR, a CCTV digital video recorder with 8 BNC analogue channels. Dahua lists it as an 8 channel Penta-brid 1080P Compact 1U digital video recorder (XVR) in its Lite Series. One CCTV recorder takes HDCVI, AHD, TVI, CVBS and IP cameras, so an existing coax system can be upgraded one camera at a time. Our guide to Dahua Penta-brid recorders explains how Penta-brid works.
Also listed as XVR5108HS-X.
Other 8 channel Dahua recorders we list: the Dahua DHI-XVR5108HS-S2 and the Dahua DH-XVR5108HS-I3(V3.0).
Key features
- H.265+ and H.265 dual-stream video compression. Dahua says Smart H.265+ can reduce bit rate and storage requirements by up to 90% compared with H.264, without having to invest in new cameras.
- HDCVI, AHD, TVI, CVBS and IP video inputs, with the recorder recognising the front-end camera signal automatically.
- Supports HDCVI cameras up to 5MP and IP cameras up to 6MP, with up to 12 IP channels and 48 Mbps incoming bandwidth.
- Smart Search to find motion in a region you draw during playback, and an Intelligent Video System with tripwire analytics, face detection and optional abandoned or missing object detection.
- Coaxial audio, upgrade and alarm functions that Dahua says reduce wiring.
- Smart fan that turns on and off with the CPU temperature to reduce fan noise.
- One SATA port for a hard drive of up to 10TB, with HDMI and VGA outputs.

Common questions
Which cameras can I connect to the DH-XVR5108HS-X?
The 8 BNC channels take HDCVI, AHD, TVI and CVBS cameras; HDCVI, AHD and TVI cameras can be up to 5MP. IP cameras can be added too: 8+4 channels (up to 12), each up to 6MP. Our guide to Dahua Penta-brid recorders explains the five formats and our guide to Dahua HDCVI cameras covers HDCVI.
What is H.265+ and why does it matter?
Dahua says Smart H.265+ can reduce bit rate and storage requirements by up to 90% compared with H.264, so the same hard drive can hold more footage.
Can it record sound or do two-way talk?
It has one audio input and one audio output on RCA connectors. Two-way talk reuses the audio in and out. Audio compression is G.711A, G.711U or PCM.
How much storage can I fit?
One SATA port, up to 10TB. There is no eSATA port. Choose a drive from the Hard Drive option on this page, or select recorder only.
Does it have alarm inputs or relay outputs?
No. The datasheet lists alarm input and relay output as not available. Motion detection, video loss, tampering and diagnosis events are supported.
How far can HDCVI cameras be from the recorder?
Dahua states that the HDCVI system supports long distance transmission over coaxial cable and UTP, up to 700m for 4K/4MP, 800m for 1080P and 1200m for 720P.
Can I watch it on my phone?
Dahua lists iPhone, iPad and Android access, and the datasheet shows P2P support. The network port is 100M and the recorder supports ONVIF 16.12.
