The Dahua HAC-HDW1200T-Z-A (Dahua's datasheet calls it DH-HAC-HDW1200T-Z-A) is a 2MP 1080p HDCVI IR eyeball turret CCTV security camera with a 2.7-12mm motorised lens and a built-in microphone, from Dahua's Lite Series. Dahua's own name for this housing is eyeball. It is an HD analogue camera: it sends high-definition video over coaxial cable, so the existing coax of an analogue CCTV system can be reused. Infrared night vision reaches 60m, and the IP67 housing suits indoor or outdoor use.

What you will need

• A Dahua XVR recorder or another HDCVI-capable recorder. Penta-brid XVRs accept HDCVI, AHD, TVI, analogue and IP on the same box, so you can mix old and new cameras and upgrade in stages (see Dahua Penta-brid recorders explained).
• RG59 coax and 12V power to each camera. Pre-made shotgun cable carries both in one run.
• A multi-way 12V power supply for several cameras; the recorder does not power them.
• A surveillance-grade hard drive, sized for how long you need to keep footage.
• Signage. If your cameras capture anything beyond your boundary you are a data controller under UK GDPR and must display a notice.

Common questions

What does HDCVI mean?

HDCVI is Dahua's technology for sending high-definition video over coaxial cable, with two-way data between camera and recorder and audio on models that have it. Dahua's datasheet quotes up to 800m for 1080P video over coaxial cable and up to 300m over UTP cable, verified in its test laboratory. See Dahua HDCVI cameras explained.

Is it a turret or an eyeball camera?

Dahua's datasheet calls it an IR Eyeball Camera. Eyeball and turret are two names for the same ball-shaped housing.

Does it have a microphone?

Yes. Dahua lists a built-in microphone. Whether sound is recorded depends on the recorder, so tell us your recorder model and we will confirm.

How far can the infrared night vision see?

Dahua lists infrared up to 60m (197 ft) with Smart IR. Its DORI figures above give 45m to detect a person at the wide end of the lens and 5m to identify one; at the tele end, 132m and 13m.

Is the lens adjustable?

Yes. It has a motorised 2.7-12mm lens with motorised focus, giving an angle of view from H 105.9° (wide) to 33.4° (tele).

Will this work with my existing recorder?

Only if it supports HDCVI. Most Dahua XVRs auto-detect the camera type per channel. Tell us your recorder model and we will confirm.

Do I need to run new cable?

Usually not. Dahua says an HDCVI system can upgrade an analogue system without replacing the existing coaxial cabling, so if the existing coax is sound it will carry the HD signal.
