Dahua HAC-HFW3231E-Z12

The Dahua HAC-HFW3231E-Z12 (DH-HAC-HFW3231E-Z12 in Dahua's datasheet) is a 2MP 1080p Starlight HDCVI IR bullet CCTV camera with 12x optical zoom, from Dahua's Ultra Series. A 5.3-64mm motorised lens adjusts the view from 58 degrees wide to 5 degrees to see faraway detail, Smart IR gives night vision up to 100m, and the housing is rated IP67 and IK10. It also has audio in and alarm in and out, and runs from AC 24V or DC 12V. Common questions

How far does the 12x optical zoom reach?

The 5.3-64mm lens covers 58 degrees wide to 5 degrees at full zoom. In Dahua's DORI table the wide end detects at 73m and identifies at 7m, and the tele end detects at 883m, observes at 353m, recognises at 177m and identifies at 88m.

What does Starlight mean?

Dahua says the Starlight sensor captures more detail and accurate colour at night or in scenes with limited illumination. This model also has 120dB true WDR. Read our Starlight low-light guide.

What recorder does it need, and how far can the signal travel?

It needs a recorder with HDCVI inputs; Dahua says the camera interacts with the HCVR, for example by sending control signals or triggering an alarm. See our Penta-brid recorder guide. Dahua says HDCVI supports up to 800m for 1080P over coaxial cable and up to 300m over UTP, verified in its test laboratory.

How far does the night vision reach?

Smart IR with 4 IR LEDs reaches up to 100m. Smart IR adjusts the LED intensity so objects are not overexposed as they come closer to the camera.

Is it waterproof and vandal-proof?

It is rated IP67 (protection against water and dust) and IK10, which Dahua describes as withstanding the equivalent of 55kg of force. It operates from -30°C to +60°C.

Is it an outdoor camera?

The housing is rated IP67 against water and dust and IK10 against impact, so it can be mounted outdoors.

Does it have audio and alarm connections?

Yes: 1-channel audio in and 1-channel alarm in and alarm out. It runs from AC 24V or DC 12V (plus or minus 25%) and uses up to 15.6W with the IR on at 12V DC.

Is there a box camera version?

The HAC-HF3231E is a 2MP Starlight HDCVI box camera with a C/CS lens mount, for use with a separate lens and housing.
