The DS-2DY9236I-CWX is a certified explosion-proof PTZ camera: 2 MP at 36× optical zoom with IR to 150 m, in a 316L stainless housing with an anti-corrosion surface treatment. It is built for hazardous areas — fuel and chemical storage, refineries, paint and solvent plants, grain and dust handling.

Hikvision certifies it to ATEX Ex II 2GD Ex db IIC T6 Gb / Ex tb IIIC T80°C Db and IECEx Ex db IIC T6 Gb / Ex tb IIIC T80°C Db, covering explosive gas and flammable dust atmospheres in Zones 1, 2, 21 and 22. It is also rated IP68 and NEMA 4X against corrosion.

It runs on mains (100–240 V AC, max. 100 W) rather than PoE, and it is a substantial unit at roughly 451 × 258 × 507.5 mm. Everything on the camera side behaves like a standard Hikvision PTZ — 300 presets, patrols and pattern scans, and the same client software and recorder support.

Frequently asked questions

What exactly is it certified to?

ATEX Ex II 2GD Ex db IIC T6 Gb / Ex tb IIIC T80°C Db and IECEx Ex db IIC T6 Gb / Ex tb IIIC T80°C Db — explosive gas and flammable dust atmospheres, Zones 1, 2, 21 and 22, with a maximum surface temperature of 85°C in gas and 80°C in dust. Tell us the zone classification and gas group for your site and we will confirm this model against it in writing before you order.

Does certifying the camera certify the installation?

No, and this is the part people get caught by. The rating covers the camera as supplied. Glands, cabling, brackets and the earthing arrangement all have to suit the zone as well, and the installation has to be carried out and inspected by someone competent in hazardous areas. We supply the equipment — we are not installers — but depending on your requirements and area we may be able to point you to a qualified trade installer.

How is this different from the anti-corrosion models?

Anti-corrosion units such as the DS-2DT6232X-AELY(T5) resist salt air and chemical washdown, but they carry no ATEX or IECEx rating and must not be used in a flammable atmosphere. This one does both: certified explosion protection plus 316L stainless and NEMA 4X against corrosion. That is why it costs several times as much.

Can I run it on PoE?

No. It takes 100–240 V AC at up to 100 W, so it needs a mains feed at the camera position. Plan that into the installation early — in a hazardous area the power route is rarely trivial.

How far does it see at night?

Hikvision quotes IR to 150 m. That is the illumination range, not the identification range — what you can recognise at that distance depends on the zoom setting and the conditions.
