The DS-3E0520HP-E is a 16-port Gigabit PoE switch with a 225 W PoE budget, 2 × Gigabit uplinks and 2 × Gigabit fibre (SFP). It is a 1U rack unit and ships with mounting ears.

The number that decides whether it fits your job is the power budget, not the port count. 225 W covers all 16 ports filled with typical fixed cameras — fewer if any are PTZs, have heaters, or are 4K models with stronger IR. Add up the real figures from each camera's datasheet before you commit; an undersized budget is the single most common reason a newly wired camera refuses to power up even though the port lights.

It is unmanaged: plug it in and it works, with no web interface and nothing to configure. That is usually what you want on a small domestic or single-cabinet job.

It also has a long-range mode that pushes PoE and data to 300 m on the designated ports, at reduced speed. That is a genuinely useful way out of a run that is slightly too long, though it drops those ports to 10 Mbps — so use it for one camera at the end of a long run rather than as a design default.

Frequently asked questions

How many cameras will it actually run?

The budget is 225 W. A typical fixed IP camera with IR draws around 6–12 W, so realistically all 16 ports filled with typical fixed cameras — but a PTZ camera or a camera with a heater can take 30–60 W on its own and change that arithmetic completely. Send us the camera list and we will total it up with you.

What is Hi-PoE for?

Ports 1 to 4 are Hi-PoE; ports 5 to 16 are standard PoE. The higher-power ports are for PTZs, cameras with heaters and anything else that will not run on standard 802.3af or 802.3at. Put the hungry devices on those ports specifically — they are not interchangeable with the rest.

Is there anything to configure?

No. It is plug-and-play with no web interface. If you want VLANs or remote port control, look at the smart-managed models instead.

What is the PoE watchdog?

It detects a camera that has stopped responding and power-cycles that port automatically. A small feature that quietly prevents a lot of "the camera is offline" calls.
