TP-LINK OMADA - SM321B - Gigabit Single-Mode WDM Bi-Directional SFP Module, 20 km

SM321B — Gigabit Single-Mode WDM Bi-Directional SFP Module, 20 km

The TP-Link Omada SM321B is a gigabit bi-directional WDM SFP module (TX 1310 nm, RX 1550 nm) for a single strand of single-mode fibre, up to 20 km. Use it with the SM321A. It plugs into an SFP slot on a switch, router or media converter to add a fibre link.

What the SM321B is for

An SFP module like the SM321B lets you choose the link type per port on an Omada network switch. Typical jobs are linking a switch in an outbuilding, a second floor or a CCTV cabinet back to the core switch, where a copper run would be too long.

TP-Link list DDM, hot-swap support and SFP-MSA compliance for the SM321B, so it can be fitted or replaced without powering the switch down. The module at the other end must be its BiDi partner, the SM321A.

Key features

• 1.25 Gbps gigabit WDM bi-directional SFP, IEEE 802.3z
• TX 1310 nm / RX 1550 nm over 9/125 μm single-mode fibre
• Uses one fibre strand, LC simplex connector
• Up to 20 km maximum cable length
• Pairs with the SM321A at the far end
• DDM, SFP-MSA compliant and hot-swappable

What you will need

You need a free SFP slot on your switch or media converter, an SM321A at the far end, and the right cable: 9/125 μm single-mode fibre (single strand), LC simplex connectors. See our data networking range for switches and cabling.

Buying from Zenith Security Co.

We are a supplier, not an installer. We will go through the SM321B with you before you buy (the slot type on your switch, the fibre or cable you have and the distance) and depending on your requirements and your area we can recommend a qualified trade installer. We have been operating since 2012 and you can visit our trade counter in Wolverhampton.

What fibre or cable does the SM321B use?

TP-Link list it for 9/125 μm single-mode fibre (single strand) with an LC simplex connector, at TX 1310 nm / RX 1550 nm.

How far can the SM321B reach?

TP-Link quote a maximum cable length of 20 km.

Which TP-Link switches is the SM321B compatible with?

It fits a 1G SFP slot, for example the SFP slots on the Omada SG2428P switch, or the SFP slot on the MC220L media converter. TP-Link publish an Omada compatibility list, or send us your switch model and we will check.

Is the SM321B hot-swappable and does it support DDM?

Yes. TP-Link list it as hot-swappable, with DDM (digital diagnostic monitoring) and SFP-MSA compliance.

Do I need a pair of SM321B modules?

No. The SM321B is one half of a bi-directional (BiDi) WDM pair. It must be used with the SM321A at the other end, over a single strand of single-mode fibre up to 20 km.
