The TP-Link Omada MC220L is a gigabit media converter with one 1000M SFP slot and one 10/100/1000M RJ45 port. Distance depends on the SFP module fitted. It lets you carry gigabit Ethernet over fibre, well beyond the 100 m limit of copper cable.
What the MC220L is for
Fibre media converters like the MC220L are used in pairs, or with a fibre port on a network switch, to link buildings, gatehouses, car-park CCTV poles or plant rooms where a copper run is too long or exposed to interference.
TP-Link supply it as a standalone unit with an external power adapter, and it can also be mounted in the MC1400 14-slot chassis when you have several links in one cabinet.

What you will need
You need an SFP module for the slot, a matching module or converter at the far end, fibre to suit the modules, an RJ45 patch lead to your switch or device, and a mains socket for the power adapter.

What fibre does the MC220L use?
It depends on the SFP module you fit. TP-Link list it for multi-mode or single-mode SFP modules, and the wavelength is set by the module.
How far can the MC220L transmit?
TP-Link state that the maximum distance depends on the SFP module fitted.
Does the MC220L need a matching unit at the other end?
Yes. The far end needs a matching fibre connection: another MC220L with the same type of module, or a switch SFP port with a compatible module. Use matching modules such as two SM311LM for multi-mode, two SM311LS for single-mode, or an SM321A/SM321B BiDi pair.
Can the MC220L go in a rack chassis?
Yes. The MC220L is chassis mountable, and the MC1400 14-slot rackmount chassis is the TP-Link chassis for its 9VDC media converters.
Is an SFP module included with the MC220L?
No. TP-Link list the MC220L, a power adapter and an installation guide in the box, so you add the SFP module you need.
How quickly can I get it?
We ship nationally from our multi-million pound warehouse, with orders leaving daily.
