The TP-Link Omada SM311LM is a 1000BASE-SX gigabit SFP module for multi-mode fibre, 850 nm, with an LC/UPC connector and up to 550 m reach. It plugs into an SFP slot on a switch, router or media converter to add a fibre link.

What the SM311LM is for

An SFP module like the SM311LM lets you choose the link type per port on an Omada network switch. Typical jobs are linking a switch in an outbuilding, a second floor or a CCTV cabinet back to the core switch, where a copper run would be too long.

TP-Link list DDM, hot-swap support and SFP-MSA compliance for the SM311LM, so it can be fitted or replaced without powering the switch down. Both ends of a link must use matching module types and the right cable.

Yes. TP-Link list it as hot-swappable, with DDM (digital diagnostic monitoring) and SFP-MSA compliance.

Reach depends on the grade of multi-mode fibre. TP-Link list 550 m or 275 m across 50/125 μm and 62.5/125 μm fibre, so tell us what fibre you have and we will confirm.

What is the difference between the SM311LM and SM311LS?

The SM311LM is for multi-mode fibre (850 nm, up to 550 m). The SM311LS is for single-mode fibre (1310 nm) and much longer runs.
