The TP-Link TL-PA4010 KIT is a twin-pack powerline starter kit that sends your internet connection through the existing mains wiring in your home or office. Each of the two miniature HomePlug AV2 adapters has one 10/100 Mbps Ethernet port, a Pair button and 128-bit AES encryption, with a range of up to 300 metres over the electrical circuit.

What the TL-PA4010 KIT is for

Plug one adapter in next to your router and connect it with the supplied Ethernet cable, then plug the second into a socket in the room where you need a wired connection: a smart TV, games console, desktop PC, IP camera or NVR in an outbuilding on the same supply. There are no new cables to run and no configuration required.

What you will need

A router with a spare LAN port, two wall sockets on the same electrical installation, and an Ethernet cable for the device at the far end. Plug the adapters directly into the wall rather than into an extension lead or surge-protected strip for the best speed.

How fast is the TP-Link TL-PA4010 KIT?

It is a Powerline 600 class kit, but each adapter has a 10/100 Mbps Ethernet port, so the wired connection to your device tops out at 100 Mbps. Real powerline throughput depends on the age and layout of your wiring and anything else on the circuit.

Does the TL-PA4010 work with UK sockets?

Yes, this is the UK-plug version. It has no pass-through socket, so it takes up the wall outlet it is plugged into. If you need to keep the socket free, choose the TL-PA4010P KIT with AC pass-through.

Can I add more adapters or pair with other TP-Link powerline kits?

TP-Link state the adapters must be deployed in sets of two or more, and you can add further HomePlug AV2 adapters to the same network using the Pair button. Mixing speed classes works, but each link runs at the speed of the slower adapter.

Do the adapters need to be on the same circuit?

They need to be on the same electrical installation (the same meter and consumer unit). Different ring circuits in one house usually work, though the speed can drop across circuits.

Is the connection secure?

Yes. Press the Pair button on each adapter to create a private network with 128-bit AES encryption, so a neighbour's adapters cannot join.

How quickly can I get it?
