Hikvision DarkFighter Cameras: Low-Light CCTV Explained

Zenith Security Co. · Authorised Hikvision partner · Supplying trade and retail since 2012 · Trade counter and live showroom, Wolverhampton

In short: DarkFighter is Hikvision's low-light camera technology. It keeps a clean colour picture at dusk, under street lighting and in dim interiors, then falls back to discreet infrared in true darkness. Zenith Security Co. is an authorised Hikvision partner supplying DarkFighter cameras as genuine UK stock, delivered within 1–3 working days.

How DarkFighter works

Every camera struggles as light falls: the picture gets noisy, moving people smear, and the camera flips to black and white early. DarkFighter models combine a more sensitive image sensor, a wide-aperture lens that gathers more light, and noise reduction tuned for low light. The practical results are:

  • Colour for longer. At dusk, under street lamps or a porch light, DarkFighter stays in colour when a standard camera has already switched to infrared.
  • Cleaner night footage. Less grain means faces and clothing are easier to make out, and recordings compress better, so they take less hard drive space.
  • Discreet infrared in full darkness. No visible white light, which suits cameras that face neighbours, bedroom windows or the road.

Where DarkFighter earns its keep

  • Street-facing fronts and driveways with some ambient light, where you want colour at dusk but no white light shining at the road.
  • Rear gardens that back onto neighbours, where a visible light would be unwelcome.
  • Pubs, restaurants and warehouses with dim interiors or mixed lighting.
  • Car parks and yards lit by a few floodlights, where standard cameras smear moving people and vehicles.

Recorders and storage

Pair 8MP DarkFighter cameras with a 4K-capable recorder such as the DS-7608NXI-K1/8P 8-channel PoE NVR or DS-7616NXI-K2/16P 16-channel PoE NVR. See all Hikvision NVRs and surveillance hard drives. Tell us the number of cameras and how many days you want to keep, and we will size the drive and fit it before dispatch.

Frequently asked questions

What is Hikvision DarkFighter?

Low-light imaging technology: a sensitive sensor, wide-aperture lens and processing that hold a clean colour picture in far less light than a standard camera.

DarkFighter or ColorVu?

ColorVu for colour all night where a visible light is acceptable. DarkFighter for strong low-light performance with discreet infrared and no visible light.

Do DarkFighter cameras have AcuSense?

Most current G2-generation models do, including the DS-2CD2386G2-IU and DS-2CD2346G2-IU.

Do they record in colour at night?

They hold colour longer as light falls and may stay in colour with ambient light. In full darkness they switch to infrared. For guaranteed colour choose ColorVu.

What recorder do I need?

Any Hikvision NVR that supports the camera's resolution; for 8MP choose a 4K-capable NVR and allow more storage.
