Q: What is Hikvision AcuSense?

AcuSense is Hikvision's deep-learning detection that classifies what moved. Instead of alerting on any change in the picture, an AcuSense camera or recorder raises an alarm only when it sees a human or a vehicle, so rain, pets, swaying trees, spiders and headlights stop filling your phone with notifications.

Q: Do I need AcuSense cameras or an AcuSense NVR?

Either works. AcuSense cameras do the classification on the camera, which scales best. An AcuSense NVR or DVR, identified by an X in NXI or an iDS prefix, can apply human and vehicle filtering to a limited number of ordinary cameras, which is a cost-effective way to upgrade an existing system. Check the channel limit on the recorder's specification.

Q: What is the difference between AcuSense and ColorVu?

They solve different problems. AcuSense is about smarter alerts: it decides whether movement is a person or a vehicle. ColorVu is about the picture at night: it records in full colour instead of black-and-white infrared. Many current Hikvision cameras include both.

Q: Can the public buy Hikvision AcuSense cameras?

What AcuSense actually does

Ordinary motion detection fires whenever pixels change. Outdoors that means constant alerts, and within a week most people mute them, which defeats the point of having CCTV alerts at all. AcuSense runs a deep-learning model on the camera or recorder that classifies the moving object. You draw a line or a zone, choose human, vehicle or both, and only those targets raise an alarm.

Fewer false alarms: animals, weather, insects and light changes are filtered out.
Faster searching: recorded footage can be searched by human or vehicle, so finding "the person at the side gate last Tuesday" takes seconds rather than an evening of scrubbing.
Active deterrence on some models: a flashing light and audio warning triggered only by a person in the zone.

Setting AcuSense up properly

Use line crossing or intrusion detection, not basic motion. AcuSense filtering applies to the smart events. Basic motion detection will still fire on everything.
Draw tight zones. Cover your drive, path or gate, not the public pavement or road beyond it.
Select the target. Tick human, vehicle or both for each rule.
Link the event to notifications in the recorder and enable alerts in Hik-Connect.
Mount at a sensible height. Around 2.5 to 3 metres with a slight downward angle classifies more reliably than a camera looking straight along a wall.
