Hikvision AcuSense Cameras & NVRs: Human and Vehicle Detection Explained

Zenith Security Co. · Authorised Hikvision partner · Supplying trade and retail since 2012 · Trade counter and live showroom, Wolverhampton

In short: AcuSense is Hikvision's human and vehicle detection. It stops the false alarms that make people turn notifications off: rain, pets, moths, swaying branches and passing headlights. Zenith Security Co. is an authorised Hikvision partner supplying AcuSense cameras, NVRs and DVRs as genuine UK stock, delivered within 1–3 working days, with advice before you buy and support afterwards.

What AcuSense actually does

Ordinary motion detection fires whenever pixels change. Outdoors that means constant alerts, and within a week most people mute them, which defeats the point of having CCTV alerts at all. AcuSense runs a deep-learning model on the camera or recorder that classifies the moving object. You draw a line or a zone, choose human, vehicle or both, and only those targets raise an alarm.

  • Fewer false alarms: animals, weather, insects and light changes are filtered out.
  • Faster searching: recorded footage can be searched by human or vehicle, so finding "the person at the side gate last Tuesday" takes seconds rather than an evening of scrubbing.
  • Active deterrence on some models: a flashing light and audio warning triggered only by a person in the zone.
  • No subscription: it runs locally and alerts arrive through the free Hik-Connect app.

AcuSense NVRs and DVRs

An AcuSense recorder can add human and vehicle filtering to cameras that do not have it, on a limited number of channels. That makes it the cheapest way to cut false alarms on an existing system.

Browse all Hikvision NVRs, and add a surveillance hard drive; we will fit and format it before dispatch.

Setting AcuSense up properly

  1. Use line crossing or intrusion detection, not basic motion. AcuSense filtering applies to the smart events. Basic motion detection will still fire on everything.
  2. Draw tight zones. Cover your drive, path or gate, not the public pavement or road beyond it.
  3. Select the target. Tick human, vehicle or both for each rule.
  4. Link the event to notifications in the recorder and enable alerts in Hik-Connect.
  5. Mount at a sensible height. Around 2.5 to 3 metres with a slight downward angle classifies more reliably than a camera looking straight along a wall.

Frequently asked questions

What is Hikvision AcuSense?

Deep-learning detection that classifies humans and vehicles, so alerts ignore rain, pets, trees, insects and headlights.

Do I need AcuSense cameras or an AcuSense NVR?

Either works. Cameras scale best; an AcuSense NVR or DVR (NXI or iDS models) can add filtering to a limited number of ordinary cameras.

What is the difference between AcuSense and ColorVu?

AcuSense is about smarter alerts. ColorVu is about full-colour pictures at night. Many current cameras have both.

Does AcuSense need a subscription?

No. It runs on the device, and alerts arrive through the free Hik-Connect app.

How do I tell if a camera has AcuSense?

Most G2-generation Pro series cameras, such as DS-2CD2343G2-IU, DS-2CD2346G2-IU and DS-2CD2387G2-LU, are AcuSense, and the product name or data sheet will say so. Recorders with NXI in the model number or an iDS prefix are AcuSense recorders. See our model numbers guide.

Can the public buy Hikvision AcuSense cameras?

Hikvision is primarily a trade product. HiLook caters for end users as well as trade. Call us and we will point you to the right range.
