Texecom D3 Series Explained: Light Blade and Sound Shield

The Texecom D3 Series is a pair of deterrence devices designed to work with Texecom Premier Elite alarm systems: the D3 Light Blade for outdoor areas and the D3 Sound Shield for indoors. The Light Blade lights up an approach as soon as its built-in PIR detects movement, while the Sound Shield fills a room with powerful sound once an alarm has been triggered.

Most alarms spot a break-in and raise the alarm. D3 adds a step before that and a stronger response after it.

What is the Texecom D3 Series?

Texecom describes D3 as a range of proactive deterrence products, meant to put intruders off before they try to get in. It sits within the company's "Deter, Detect, Delay" approach, which sets out three goals: make an intruder think twice, identify and confirm the threat, then slow them down.

At launch the range had two products, both aimed at professional installers and both designed to integrate with Premier Elite systems. Texecom says they are available through its authorised distributors.

D3 Light Blade: outdoor light deterrence

The Light Blade is an outdoor unit that combines a high-intensity LED light with integrated PIR motion detection. When it picks up movement it lights up straight away, so anyone approaching a driveway, yard or doorway is suddenly in the spotlight.

Texecom's product information adds that it flashes red and blue strobes when the alarm activates, intended to look like a police presence. Other points worth knowing:

  • It can be triggered by its own detection, by alarm events or by system programming.
  • The housing is weather-resistant for outdoor use.
  • Several units can be wired in series or parallel to extend coverage.
  • It is designed to fit into corners, above door frames and other tight spots.
  • It comes in anthracite, silver or white.

Texecom suggests uses ranging from home driveways and gardens to shop entrances, warehouses, car parks, schools and healthcare sites.

D3 Sound Shield: indoor acoustic deterrence

The Sound Shield works inside the protected area. Once an alarm event is triggered it produces a powerful, disorienting sound intended to disrupt and discourage an intruder. It integrates with Premier Elite panels and can either replace a standard alarm siren or run alongside one.

  • A built-in battery keeps it working if power is lost.
  • It is compact, with straightforward wiring that makes retrofitting easier, and several units can be used together.
  • It can be mounted on walls or ceilings to cover larger or awkwardly shaped rooms.
  • Texecom says Stockholm's Royal Institute of Technology has independently assessed it, that its output stays below the 140 dB peak limit, and that its effects are temporary, fading once the sound stops.

Typical applications include retail stock rooms, offices outside working hours and high-value properties.

Where the Texecom D3 Series fits in an alarm system

It helps to picture a Premier Elite installation as three rings around the property.

Outside the building

This is the Light Blade's territory. It reacts to movement on a drive, rear yard or loading area, making the site look watched before anyone touches a door or window. A conventional bell box, for example the Texecom Odyssey 1 external sounder, still provides the visible warning and the audible alarm, and a backlit dummy bell box can repeat that warning on side walls.

At the control panel

The panel remains the brain of the system, and D3 adds deterrence on top of detection rather than replacing it. The Premier Elite 48 control panel we stock, for instance, is a Grade 3 panel with 8 zones expandable to 48 and remote diagnostics through Texecom Cloud. Texecom also notes that cameras and smoke cannons from other makers can be connected to Premier Elite systems, so D3 can be one layer of a wider design.

Inside the building

The Sound Shield takes over once the alarm has gone off, adding powerful sound in the rooms that matter most, such as a stock room. Your installer can keep your existing internal siren alongside it or replace it.

Planning a D3 upgrade: questions for your installer

D3 is aimed at professional installers, so most homeowners and businesses will add it through their alarm company. Worth asking:

  • Is my panel a Premier Elite? D3 is designed for that range.
  • How will each unit be triggered? The Light Blade alone offers several trigger modes.
  • Who could be inside when the Sound Shield sounds? Think about keyholders, cleaners and early-shift staff.
  • Where will the light point? Aim it at your own approach routes, not a neighbour's windows.
