Texecom Capture LR50: Where a Long-Range Corridor PIR Makes Sense

The Texecom Capture LR50 is a wall-mounted, long-range PIR motion detector made for corridors, with a 50m x 2m detection pattern. It comes as a wired model and a wireless Ricochet model, and Texecom lists it as EN50131-2-2 Grade 2 (self-declared). We do not currently list the LR50, so contact us for availability or see the Capture detectors we do stock below.

What is the Texecom Capture LR50?

Most wall-mounted PIR detectors are designed with rooms in mind. They spread their coverage in a wide fan so one sensor can watch a lounge, office or shop floor. The Texecom Capture LR50 takes the opposite approach. It is intended for corridors and similar long, narrow areas, so its coverage reaches a long way forward but stays tight: 50m long by 2m wide.

Inside, it uses a quad element pyro sensor, which Texecom says gives precise detection while keeping false alarms down. It is a wall-mounted unit, and Texecom highlights versatile mounting options so it can be fitted in different types of installation.

Where a long-range corridor PIR makes sense

A standard wall PIR is a poor fit for a long corridor. Take the Texecom Capture Q20 as an example: it gives 20m / 90° volumetric coverage. That is ideal for a room, but in a narrow hallway much of the fan points at the walls, and anything beyond 20m is outside its reach. On a very long run you may need more than one detector to cover the full length.

A corridor detector puts its coverage where an intruder actually has to walk. Good places to consider one include:

  • Long hallways in larger homes, where the corridor links bedrooms, stairs and entrances.
  • Office and commercial corridors that connect several rooms and are a natural route through the building.
  • Any long, narrow space where a wide-angle detector would waste most of its coverage on the walls.

Because anyone moving between rooms usually passes through the corridor, a detector covering its whole length can act as a useful backstop alongside the detectors in each room. For a bank of windows or a single doorway, the Texecom Capture C15 curtain PIR applies the same narrow idea over 15m.

When a standard detector is the better choice

If the space is a room rather than a corridor, a volumetric detector is usually the right tool. The Capture Q20 suits most rooms and has an optional PetWise mode. The Capture D20 dual tech detector pairs a quad pyro with K-band microwave and offers PetWise and CloakWise modes, giving installers more options to tune detection to the room. Our Texecom Capture range guide explains how to choose between the other models.

Wired or wireless?

The wired LR50 (AKW-0001) suits new installs or premises that already have alarm cabling. The wireless LR50-W runs on Texecom's Ricochet mesh technology, which Texecom says strengthens both the robustness and the range of the system. That makes it worth a look when running a cable down a finished corridor would be disruptive.

The wireless model comes in 868MHz (GDF-0001) and 866MHz (GDF-0002) versions. Make sure the version you choose matches your existing Ricochet system. If you already run Ricochet devices such as the Capture Q20-W wireless quad PIR, ask your installer or our team which version fits.

Installation pointers

  • Point it along the run. The narrow pattern should look down the length of the corridor rather than across it.
  • Keep the view clear. A PIR cannot see through solid objects, so doors, cupboards or furniture in the corridor can leave blind spots.
  • Follow the manual. Texecom's launch details do not list a mounting height, so take height and angle settings from the installation instructions.
