Texecom Capture C15 Curtain PIR: Wired vs Wireless Explained

The Texecom Capture C15 is a curtain PIR detector that projects a narrow 15m x 2m detection pattern across windows, doorways or a valuable item, rather than covering a whole room. It comes as the wired C15 or the wireless C15-W, which is offered in 868MHz and 866MHz versions. Texecom states that it meets EN50131-2-2 Grade 2.

Texecom introduced the C15 as "the latest addition to the renowned Capture range". This guide explains what a curtain PIR is for, how the wired and wireless models differ and where one earns its place on an alarm system. One point up front: Zenith does not currently list the Capture C15 or C15-W on our website, so please contact us for availability before planning an installation around it.

What is the Texecom Capture C15?

The Capture C15 is a passive infrared (PIR) motion detector with a curtain pattern. Instead of spreading its detection zones in a wide fan, it concentrates them into a long, thin band about 15 metres long and 2 metres wide. Inside is a quad element pyro sensor, which Texecom says gives accurate detection while keeping false alarms down.

Texecom positions the detector for homes, commercial premises and high-value sites, and puts quick fitting and dependable performance at the centre of its pitch.

How does a curtain PIR differ from a standard PIR?

A standard room PIR is volumetric. Mounted in a corner, it watches most of the floor area in front of it. That suits hallways and living spaces, but it is not always the right tool when you only want to guard one line, such as a run of windows or a single doorway.

A curtain PIR creates a flat wall of detection instead. Someone crossing that line is picked up, while movement elsewhere in the room falls outside the pattern. A common approach is to use both types together: a curtain detector on the vulnerable perimeter and a standard PIR, such as the Texecom Capture P15 wired 15m PIR, covering the room itself.

When the wired C15 makes sense

The wired version suits new builds, refurbishments and any site where a cable run back to the control panel is straightforward, such as a property that already has alarm cabling in place.

When the wireless C15-W makes sense

The C15-W is the better fit where running cable would mean lifting floors, chasing walls or disturbing a finished room, which is often the case in occupied homes and fitted-out offices or shops. Because Texecom offers it in two radio frequencies, confirm which frequency and wireless system your panel uses before ordering.

Where to use a curtain PIR

  • Windows: a curtain along a bank of windows or patio glazing picks up someone climbing in, without watching the whole room.
  • Doorways: guard a single entrance, such as a back door or the corridor to a stockroom. For a long corridor, the Capture LR50 is Texecom's 50m long-range option.
  • High-value assets: set a detection curtain in front of a safe, a display, artwork or an equipment rack.

On glazing, you may also want the window or door itself monitored. The Texecom Ricochet Impaq SC-W combines shock and contact detection in one wireless device.

Buying a curtain PIR from Zenith

Our Texecom range covers Premier Elite panels, Ricochet wireless devices, Odyssey sounders and several Capture detectors, including the Capture P15-W wireless 15m PIR. The C15 and C15-W are not listed yet, so speak to our team if you want one for a project.

If you need a curtain detector now, our intruder alarm detectors category includes curtain models from other brands, for example:

  • Pyronix FPKX18DC: an 18m narrow-beam curtain detector with a dual element sensor and selectable end-of-line resistors.
  • Pyronix KX15DC-WE: a wireless 15m curtain detector that uses Pyronix Enforcer two-way wireless technology on 868MHz.

These are Pyronix products, not Texecom, so check that any detector suits your control panel before you order. For the Capture C15 or C15-W, contact us for availability.
