The TP-Link Omada MC420L is a 10G media converter with one SFP+ slot and one 1G/2.5G/5G/10G RJ45 port. Distance depends on the SFP+ module fitted. It lets you carry 10G and multi-gigabit Ethernet over fibre, well beyond the 100 m limit of copper cable.
What the MC420L is for
Fibre media converters like the MC420L are used in pairs, or with a fibre port on a network switch, to link buildings, gatehouses, car-park CCTV poles or plant rooms where a copper run is too long or exposed to interference.
TP-Link supply it as a standalone unit with an external power adapter, and it can also be mounted in the MC1400 14-slot chassis when you have several links in one cabinet.

What you will need
You need an SFP+ module for the slot, a matching module or converter at the far end, fibre to suit the modules, an RJ45 patch lead to your switch or device, and a mains socket for the power adapter.

What fibre does the MC420L use?
It depends on the SFP+ module you fit. TP-Link list it for multi-mode or single-mode SFP+ modules, and the wavelength is set by the module.
How far can the MC420L transmit?
TP-Link state that the maximum distance depends on the SFP+ module fitted.
Does the MC420L need a matching unit at the other end?
Yes. The far end needs a matching fibre connection: another MC420L or a switch SFP+ port, with matching modules such as two SM5110-SR for multi-mode or two SM5110-LR for single-mode.
Can the MC420L go in a rack chassis?
TP-Link list the MC420L as rack-mountable in the MC1400 14-slot media converter chassis.
How far can the RJ45 side of the MC420L run?
TP-Link list 1G/2.5G/5G up to 100 m on Cat5e or above, and 10G up to 55 m on Cat6 UTP or 100 m on Cat6 STP or above.
How quickly can I get it?
