The TP-Link Omada SM321A-2 is a gigabit bi-directional WDM SFP module (TX 1550 nm, RX 1310 nm) for a single strand of single-mode fibre, up to 2 km. Use it with the SM321B-2. It plugs into an SFP slot on a switch, router or media converter to add a fibre link.

What the SM321A-2 is for

An SFP module like the SM321A-2 lets you choose the link type per port on an Omada network switch. Typical jobs are linking a switch in an outbuilding, a second floor or a CCTV cabinet back to the core switch, where a copper run would be too long.

TP-Link list DDM, hot-swap support and SFP-MSA compliance for the SM321A-2, so it can be fitted or replaced without powering the switch down. The module at the other end must be its BiDi partner, the SM321B-2.

Is the SM321A-2 hot-swappable and does it support DDM?

Yes. TP-Link list it as hot-swappable, with DDM (digital diagnostic monitoring) and SFP-MSA compliance.

Do I need a pair of SM321A-2 modules?

No. The SM321A-2 is one half of a bi-directional (BiDi) WDM pair. It must be used with the SM321B-2 at the other end, over a single strand of single-mode fibre up to 2 km.
