How much does an Ajax alarm cost in the UK? Three systems priced

A complete Ajax wireless alarm kit from us, with a hub, two motion detectors, a door contact, a keypad and two sirens, is £472.95, and the Hub 2 (2G) control panel on its own is £161.53. Our worked example for a three-bedroom semi comes to £704.80, and a small shop to £883.78. All prices include VAT, delivery is extra, and fitting, monitoring and SIM data are separate costs. These are our prices on 27 October 2026 and they can change.

What makes up the cost of an Ajax alarm?

The bill has four parts:

  • Equipment: the hub, detectors, a keypad or key fobs, and sirens. You pay for this once.
  • Fitting: your own time, or an installer's quote.
  • Monitoring: optional. Without it, the hub alerts you by app notification, SMS and phone call.
  • Running costs: replacement batteries every few years and a data plan for the hub's SIM cards.

What do the main Ajax devices cost?

Every Ajax alarm is built around one hub. Detectors, keypads and sirens run on batteries and link to it over Jeweller, Ajax's encrypted two-way radio, so no cables run between rooms. Our examples use these devices:

DeviceWhat it doesOur price
Hub 2 (2G)Control panel with Ethernet and two 2G SIM slots, for up to 100 devices£161.53
Hub 2 (4G)The same panel with 2G, 3G and 4G on its SIM slots£228.45
Hub 2 PlusAdds Wi-Fi to Ethernet and two SIM slots (2G, 3G and 4G), for up to 200 devices£268.10
MotionProtect UIndoor motion detector that ignores pets up to 20 kg£58.84
MotionCamMotion detector with a camera that takes photos when it triggers£124.61
DoorProtect UContact for a door or window£50.76
KeyPad PlusKeypad that also reads Ajax Pass cards and Tag fobs£116.54
SpaceControlFour-button key fob that sets the alarm and has a panic button£47.31
StreetSirenSiren for indoors or an outside wall, rated IP54£119.99

All of these are certified to EN 50131 Grade 2. Most Ajax intruder devices are also listed against the UK scheme PD 6662:2017, but not all (MotionProtect U is not), so check the product page if your insurer asks.

Is a kit cheaper than buying the parts?

For the kit we priced, by a wide margin. Kit 21 S is £472.95 and holds Hub 2 (2G), two Superior MotionProtect detectors, a Superior DoorProtect contact, a Superior KeyPad Plus, and an indoor and an outdoor siren. Bought one at a time at our current prices, those seven devices come to £665.29, so the kit saves £192.34.

Kit 19 S costs £478.66. It swaps the keypad for two SpaceControl key fobs and uses Hub 2 Plus, which adds Wi-Fi and 4G. Our Ajax kits run from £451.25 to £736.85, depending on the hub and devices inside.

Before you settle on a 2G hub: Ofcom says UK networks will switch 2G off by 2033 at the latest, with EE starting in May 2029. A 2G hub then keeps Ethernet but loses its SIM backup. Hub 2 (4G) costs £66.92 more than Hub 2 (2G).

Three example systems, priced

These are worked examples, not quotes. Every building is different, and thick walls or long gardens can mean adding a ReX 2 range extender at £158.07.

Flat or small house: £472.95

  • Kit 21 S on its own: the front door, two rooms covered by motion detectors, a keypad by the door, and sirens inside and out.

Three-bedroom semi: £704.80

  • Kit 19 S (hub, two motion detectors, door contact, two key fobs, two sirens): £478.66
  • KeyPad Plus for the hallway: £116.54
  • DoorProtect U for the back door: £50.76
  • MotionProtect U for the landing: £58.84

Small shop: £883.78 (about £736 before VAT)

  • Hub 2 (4G), so the alarm can still report over the mobile network if the broadband is cut: £228.45
  • Two MotionCam detectors, so you can see a photo of what set the alarm off: £249.22
  • Two DoorProtect U contacts for the front and back doors: £101.52
  • KeyPad Plus with a three-pack of Tag fobs for staff: £133.84
  • Button, a wireless panic button for the counter: £50.76
  • StreetSiren on the outside wall: £119.99

What does fitting add?

We supply Ajax equipment; we don't fit it. With no cables between devices the job is simpler than a wired alarm, though Ajax recommends professional installation. Installers set their own prices, so ask for a quote that separates equipment from labour. We can recommend a qualified installer depending on the job and area.

Fitting it yourself does rule out a police unique reference number (URN). Under the National Police Chiefs' Council (NPCC) requirements, only systems installed, maintained and monitored by a company certified by a UKAS-accredited certification body can get one. The NPCC lists the URN fee for an intruder alarm at £70.68 including VAT from 1 April 2026.

What are the ongoing costs?

  • Monitoring: an alarm receiving centre charges a regular fee, set by the monitoring company or your installer. Ajax hubs support the SIA DC-09 and Contact ID formats these centres use. We don't sell monitoring contracts.
  • Ajax Services: Ajax SIM, cloud storage for Ajax video devices and Photo Mode are optional extras. Availability varies by region and the Ajax services page lists no prices, so ask your installer.
  • SIM data: Ajax includes a SIM card only in some regions, so allow for a data plan if you want the mobile backup.
  • Batteries: Ajax calculates up to 5 years for MotionProtect U and 7 for DoorProtect U on one CR123A cell, and 3.5 years for KeyPad Plus on four AA cells.

What do add-ons cost?

  • Fire detection: FireProtect 2 heat and smoke detectors join the same hub, at £80.77 mains-powered or £98.07 with replaceable batteries (black). Under the Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Alarm (England) Regulations 2015, as amended in 2022, landlords must fit a smoke alarm on every storey with living accommodation, and a carbon monoxide alarm in any room used as living accommodation that has a fixed combustion appliance other than a gas cooker. See our Ajax wireless fire alarms.
  • Video doorbell: Ajax DoorBell is £229.32 in four colours. See Ajax video doorbells.
  • Cameras: a 5 MP TurretCam is £122.89 and an 8-channel NVR £199.22, in our Ajax cameras and recorders range.
  • Water: a LeaksProtect flood detector is £63.46, and WaterStop shut-off valves start at £167.30 in our Ajax smart home devices.

Our take

Start with a kit: Kit 21 S costs £192.34 less than its parts, and Kit 19 S adds a 4G and Wi-Fi hub, with fobs instead of a keypad, for £5.71 more. Then spend where it changes the outcome: MotionCam where you want to see what triggered an alarm, a 4G hub if the system must outlast 2G, and fire detection if you let the property. Budget separately for fitting and, for police response, a monitoring contract with a certified company.
