The Texecom Capture PET is a 15m, 90° PIR motion detector that Texecom announced in August 2024 for homes with large pets. It comes as a wired model and a wireless Capture PET-W, and it is designed to cut false alarms caused by animals while still picking up intruders. Zenith does not currently list it, so this guide explains how pet immunity works, where to mount a PIR around pets and which pet-friendly Capture detectors we do stock.
In August 2024 Texecom announced the Capture PET, a passive infrared (PIR) detector carrying the Capture name and aimed at households with bigger animals. The job sounds simple but is hard to get right. The detector has to ignore the family dog wandering the hallway at night and still raise the alarm when a person walks through the same space.
According to Texecom's launch announcement, the detector offers:
| Model | Part code | Connection | Frequency |
|---|---|---|---|
| Capture PET | AKY-0001 | Wired | Not applicable |
| Capture PET-W | GDH-0001 | Wireless | 868MHz |
| Capture PET-W | GDH-0002 | Wireless | 866MHz |
Texecom's announcement does not give a pet weight limit, a security grade, a list of compatible panels or a price. Check the official datasheet, or ask us, before you specify one for a job.
A PIR detector does not see movement the way a camera does. It reacts to changes in infrared heat as a warm body crosses the detection zones created by its lens. People and animals both give off heat, so a basic PIR can be set off by a dog or a cat.
Pet-tolerant detectors are generally built to tell a smaller, lower heat signature moving near the floor apart from an adult-sized one moving through the pattern. The sensor plays a big part in this, and Texecom credits the Capture PET's dual element pyro with reducing false triggers from pets.
Pet immunity cannot cope with everything, though. A cat sitting on top of a bookcase or a dog bounding up the stairs puts a warm body in the part of the pattern meant for people. That is why good installation matters so much.
Texecom gives an adjustable mounting height of 1.5m to 3m. Fit the detector within that range and follow the installation instructions for the height you choose, because height changes where the coverage pattern lands on the floor.
Avoid aiming the detector at staircases, sofas, cat trees, window sills or worktops that your pets climb on. Pet-tolerant detectors are generally designed around animals moving at floor level, not at head height.
Radiators, log burners and sunny windows cause sudden changes in heat, and they are favourite resting spots for pets. Angle detectors away from them wherever you can.
Think about how an intruder would move through the room, for example from a back door towards the hallway, and cover that path. Keep pet beds and feeding bowls towards the edge of the pattern.
Walk test every new detector, then let your pet roam while the system is in test mode to see how it behaves before you rely on it. Installers should note each pet's size and habits during the site survey.
Zenith does not currently list the Capture PET or Capture PET-W. If you need one, contact us for availability. In the meantime, we stock other Texecom Capture detectors whose product pages list a PetWise mode:
Starting from scratch? The Texecom Premier Elite 24 Kit with Capture is a good place to begin. You can also browse our full Texecom range or every intruder alarm detector we sell.
Not at the moment. Zenith stocks other Texecom Capture detectors with a PetWise mode, including the Capture P15, Capture P15-W and Capture D20. Contact us to ask about availability of the Capture PET.
The Capture PET (AKY-0001) is the wired version. The Capture PET-W is wireless and comes in two frequency options: 868MHz (GDH-0001) and 866MHz (GDH-0002).
Texecom quotes a 15m range with 90° volumetric coverage and an adjustable mounting height of 1.5m to 3m.
No detector can promise that. Pets that climb onto furniture or stairs inside the detection pattern can still cause problems, so careful placement and a walk test matter as much as the sensor.
